Great Housing Pricing in Cookeville!
Hello everyone. Cookeville is on my list of a possible place to move to.
I called up a few real estate place and propery management places and told them that if I moved to Cookeville I would like to rent for the first year while I looked for a house of my liking. They asked me what price range for renting I was looking at and I told them $2,000.00 per month. It was funny. All of a sudden there was dead silence. I thought I had been disconnected. Then I was told that they had nothing that expensive. I was shocked and scared all they had were dumps. So they start telling me about the houses they had, sent me some pics and specs of the housing and I was shocked again! Beautiful homes for $1,200.00 a month! Totally freaked me out! For all you cookeville people...you are so lucky when it comes to housing. Those $1,200.00 a month houses are like $2,400.00 a month here.

That's the attitude that makes a place become overpriced, kinda like the place you left.
And also: Consider the salary differential. $1,200. is a Millionaire in those parts!

I have to agree with user about the salaries. Be careful thinking "Hey it's cheap there" because wages follow right along with cost of living. For example, my hubby has been offered many, many jobs for 30k, 40k and more a year more than he makes here in TN. However in those places the higher cost of living makes it about equal to what he makes here.
Do you have work lined up for when you move?

It's true that wages for many occupations are lower in places like Cookeville. However, many of the wages around Cookeville are on par with bigger cities, especially state university faculty. It's not surprising that many (if not most) of the faculty members who retire from Tennessee Tech end up staying in the Cookeville area.

What do you mean by "That's the attitude that makes a place become overpriced"
I only stated a fact that the housing is priced very low.
Not only is the housing and taxes where I live MUCH more expensive like I stated but the wages are nearly the same as Cookeville.
Mbmouse...I work out of my house. I run an online business so job market does not apply to me.

I agree...prices are very reasonable in Cookeville. Some of the new homes, like the one we're in, didn't sell right away and were rented. If you're moving here in May or June, our house will be available!

And, from what I recall, your home is in a very desirable part of town, right? The Lowlands? Capshaw Woods? I can't remember exactly.
Johnbain, that might be something to check out.

Hi: Yes, the housing is quite low compared to other areas, just make sure that you have checked into employment. We've been here for 3 months and my husband still has not found a job. After working for 40 yrs, this has been a real blow to his ego and our checking account. If you are being transferred it is a terrific deal. Margarets 12
