What is the area like? Is it welcomng? I live in NH in a small town. It truly is a beautiful state but I want warm! George Bush calls northeasterners overeducated elitists. I don't agree but if that is the way southerners might see us, can we fit in there?

And, what do you think now? I am a yankee too. Looking to move to warmer climate. Here in NH we are growing like crazy and it's cold in the winter. Wal Mart is everywhere and the small towns are struggling to stay afloat. Not the NH I first met years ago.

Default This is as simple as it gets....

I can understand your desire for a change.
I work in Chattanooga but I live in a small town north of Chattanooga.
SMALL town of Charleston, TN. but close to Cleveland or Athens for nice shopping. It is 45 mins from Chattanooga. One hour from Knoxville and only mins the Cherokee National forest and Appalachian Mountains.
I love it here but will be moving as soon as my home here sells. Moving close to my daughter in New Jersey......I KNOW.....big change....but I will manage..
Golf courses are plentiful here. Hospitals are good. HOME prices ....well my is up and at 2300 + sq ft. is only 179,900. You can find much higher or lower prices in this area. It is just what you are looking for.
Taxes here for my house is $800 a year on one acre of land. It is the small town life that I like but you can be in Chatt. within an 30-45 min. or Nashville in 2-3 hours...Knoxville in one hour.
Also, I love the fact that there is no state tax here.
Utilities are not bad either. Water runs around $20 and my electric was only $123 last month.
Happy hunting and I hope you find what you are looking for. Any where in Eastern Tennessee is great.....NO mistaking that.

Default Again...

Yes, the natives do not like the Yankees moving in. especially if you have a New england accent. They think we are New Yorkers and they don't like them. Don't ask me why.

As far as Walmart goes, they are everywhere and eating up mom and pops across the country. Here is no different. Unfotunately.

Oh that's nonsense. But lets face it, no one likes New Yorkers. I can't even explain why but that New England or New Yorker accent is grating to me, and New Yorkers, right or wrong, have a reputation for being rude, impatient, and obnoxious. But heck, midwesterners don't like New Yorkers and californians don't like New Yorkers. Just one of those facts of life.

I've lived in TN for 30 years, small towns and large. While TN will always be my "home" and I am a proud American. My heaven is Costa Rica (the Switzerland of the Americas), live in the cool mountain air and be lying on the beach in an hour and a half drive. All for about 60 cents on the dollar!!

Sweetie I'm not a southerner, I'm one of those Yankees that came south. By making some incorrect assumptions about me perhaps you just proved something about yourself.

I never assume anything. What I was pointing out was that you said "let's face it. No one likes New Yorkers."

Easy guys, lets not start a flame war. Lets just agree to disagree ok.
It all depends on what town, part of town, who your neighbors are, who you work with etc. Some people don't like Yankees, some don't like southerners, some don't like people of a certain color, or of a certain religion, or a certain nationality......and so on. For as many categories of people you can list, there will be just as many that don't like that category. It is called prejudice and unfortunately, it will always be around. That is not limited to any place on this planet I am afraid.
