I stumbled upon this treat, because my husband and I are thinking of relocating to the midwest for Oregon. I looked into Tennessee simple because the taxes are low and the cost of living too. But my husband isn't so much for living in the South. I am from Germany and only now "the south" from hear saying and reading and media, and lots of is not pretty, especially racism. It is a thing I just don't get.
Anyway, when I read this threat (thank you so much mbmouse for your wonderful inside) I knew I am wrong about my perception, because of the people here. So thank you all for being such inspirational being. God bless.

1. No state is homogeneous. For examples, there are vast differences between the Florida panhandle and the southern tip; and in Tennessee, the farming west, "southern" central, and Appalachian east could easily be different states.
2. Speaking of stereotypes, all you need to know about Oregon can be found in the excellent documentary, Portlandia.
