Exclamation want to move to TN

My Family And I Would Love To Move To Tn, We Have 3 Small Children Ages 9 And 6. We Were Considering Greene County. Wondering How The Schools Are There. Want To Move To A New Place And Bring Up Our Children. We Live In Delaware Now. We Noticed The Price Of Homes There And They Seem Lower Then Here In Delaware. A 3 Bedroom House Here Start In The High 200 If You Want A Nice Area. Anyone With Any Information Would Be Helpful. I Have Lived In Delaware All My Life, And Kinda Scared To Make A Move. But I Have Heard Many Nice Things About Tn. Thank You For Reading My Post.. Rose

Better cost of living here but no jobs. Tennessee is a wonderful place to live and bring up kids but employment and wages suck...excuse me, SUCK.

bellarose37. Could you give us a little more information concerning your employment needs? There are job openings in the region for those with certain skills. As far as schools are concerned, information is available on the Tennseess Department of Education web site on school systems....literally a report card for systems with an A-F grade assigned to four core areas...math, reading..etc. You may want to check the counties around Greene for both employment opportunities and school systems. The larger cities in the region have their own school systems separate from the counites so you will see, for example, a Kingsport city system and a Sullivan County system...same with Johnson City and Bristol.

my husband is a plumber. I have worked in a grocery chain for 20yrs. But right now not working because of a back problem from a surgery i had in the past. We were looking at greeneville becasue the homes there look real nice and affordable. We are renting a home now for 1000 a month. But we would like to own a house one day in a nice place. The homes here are very expensive with no land and are very small. The crime rate here in Delaware is not very good either. As we live in a ok area with no real problems, there are areas that are real bad, where race becomes an issue. But I guess thats everywhere. My twin boys are in a special education class for reading, but progressing well. I'm just scared about a big move, and excited at thesame time. thank you for your reply..

Here are a few newspapaer links to some of the area towns, including Greeneville. Hope that helps! I had my children in a Greene county school, it was ok, but personally I prefer Washington County schools but Greeneville is a bit cheaper cost of living wise.

Yeah, it is cheaper here, but that is about the only good point. The dialect is awful. The people are friendly, but have a "very" different way of doing things. Coming from the North, you probably won't like it here. We're from KY and we are going back that way.

I just had a friend move from Greeneville. They had a huge house that was super cheap to buy, but still, in the end, couldn't afford it because the husband's job wasn't quite enough for the family to live on and the wife was going to have to find a job (and couldn't).

Default That's what I'm talking about...

It all looks good on paper but honestly, you don't REALLY know until you moved there.

Honestly, we are actually starting to do better here. But it took a long time and it has been really tough.

I agree with a lot of what has been said in this forum. Greeneville is a beautiful town in a really beautiful part of the country. But I wouldn't move there unless I already had a good job guaranteed; it's not the kind of place where you can just pack up and move to and expect to find a good job the next day.

If you want to live in Tennessee, Nashville has, by far, the best economy and the most jobs. But the cost of living is high. Murfreesboro is an affordable suburb with a booming economy and good schools, but it's got a lot of growing pains, particularly ridiculous traffic.
