Mc Minnville or Union City
Hi , my family and I are looking to relocate from Florida to Mc Minnville or Union City. We 've found houses that we like in both cities and we were wondering about the shools and neighborhoods, ect. We have 3 kids 6,4, and 1 and we want somewhere that we can let them out to play and grow up not worring about weirdos and gangs. Also we would like to know about getting a job up there. We run our own home repair and remodeling business and we would like to know if anyboby knows how well we would fair up there. Anybody who could answer anything would greatly help us, Thank you.

I would avoid McMinnville like the plague. Its nickname is "McMethville" and you can figure out why. The lousy economy in McMinnville has attracted quite a few Hispanic gangs, too. It is beautiful around McMinnville, but housing is cheap there for a reason. The recently-closed Carrier plant put over 1,200 people out of work.
Union City is a cute little town, and the schools can't be any worse than McMinnville's. However, the Goodyear plant in Union City keeps threatening to close which would be devastating to the local economy. I don't think Union City has the problems with Hispanic gangs that McMinnville has.

McMinnville is a dirty little town with bad schools. I don't know anything about Union City except that it's way out in west Tennessee and pretty isolated. If you like the area of Tennessee where McMinnville is located I'd suggest Manchester or Cookeville.

"Hispanic gangs" in TN? What in the hell is this country coming to?
We live in Panama City Beach. I just got back from the beach Walmart and as usual, Sunday's are "Taco Tag" Tag means day in German. My wife is German and we speak German together, hence Taco Tag for Mexican day at Walmart.
I couldn't believe my own eyes at what I saw at Walmart. Gang of Mexicans walking all around the store holding their private parts in one hand and talking on their cell phone with the other hand. They were walking in a group, trying to intimidate people by not moving out of the way and looking and laughing at old people.
I grew up in Birmingham in the 1960s and we've been having white flight ever since I can remember. Soon we wont have anywhere to hide. Even the gated communities here in FL have dope houses in them.
Let's see, where can I find a safe haven to hide now since we've been infiltrated my Mexico?

I'm not sure what Boris meant by "Hispanic Gangs" in McMinnville, we do have Mexicans here that work in the Nurseries, but they mainly keep to themselves. They don't cause any problems if you know what I mean, the local folks won't tolerate it. The town had a meth problem at one time, but people just keeps stretching the story bigger and bigger every time they tell it..LOL.. the only bad thing about this little town is, there's very few jobs here.
It's a nice clean little town with very nice people, there's not trash all over the streets and roadways like you see in some towns.

I have family in McMinnville and get there quite a bit. It's a depressing place. You can tell that at one time it was a bustling community. You've got a mall with no stores, a bunch of fast-food joints, Mexicans driving beat-up cars and empty businesses. My cousin who teaches school there says her school is full of Mexican gangs, and the meth problem is still very pronounced. Do yourself and your family a favor by moving somewhere else.

JMT, if McMinnville is as bad as you make it out to be, why does your family live here? You just said that I should move somewhere else..LOL..

Oh believe me, I've asked them the same thing. My cousin isn't from McMinnville originally, but she's married to a local good old boy who insisted on moving back there after college. But there is a crack in his armor: he can't stand the huge influx of Mexican migrant workers there and has hinted that he might move away if the Mexicans keep coming en masse.

Union City has an excellent city school system, and there's a county school system as well if the city isn't what you're looking for. Both have their pros and cons. I've got children in the city school system.
Union City is somewhat isolated, but it's not bad. Jackson and Paducah are about an hour away, Memphis and Nashville about 2 1/2, and St. Louis about 3.
The commercial construction business is going well, but the residential market is a little slow at the moment. I-69 is scheduled to circle west and north of the city and some growth is likely from that. Goodyear hasn't left yet, and the town has built a good enough commercial base to survive if they do close up.
The next town to the East is a college town, but isn't quite as progressive (the city and college tend to keep to themselves).
If you're still looking and have some specific questions, I'll try to answer them.
