small towns with larger city nearby (Knoxville, Chattanooga: insurance, work, hospitals)

Hi, looking for small towns (2000-3000) in your area with larger city (30,000)near by, maybe 10-15 miles, for shopping, a mall, banking, medical, etc. Would also like an airport not to far, cost of homes, insurance, taxes, utilities, etc are important, as we are half retired. Schools not a concern, no children. Spent time in TN, work related 25 or so years ago, Kingsport, Chattanooga, Knoxville, any ideas? Thanks

Jonesborough Tennessee, TN's oldest town is very nice. It is a smaller town that is 10-15 minutes from Johnson City, which has plenty of shopping. It is a tourist town but it doesnt draw too many people to where it feels crowded except for there yearly story telling festival, parade, and possibly a few other yearly events. The people are friendly.

The closest airport is the Tri Cities (Johnson City, Kingsport, and Bristol)airport, which is rather small but there is very little waiting in line.

Housing runs around $120 to $150k for a newer/new 3 br 2 ba.

Anywhere in the Tr-Cities area sounds like it would fit your bill. There is a regional airport and lots of shopping, hospitals, restaurants and other necessities all within easy driving time. There are many small towns/areas in and around. Here is a list of towns/areas that you might want to look at: Colonial Heights, Gray, Sulpher Springs, Jonesborough, Pinney Flats, Boones Creek, Blountville, Bluff City. I'm sure I forgot a few, but check out a local map, that will give you a good idea of proximity of these areas and how close they are to what you are looking for.
