At the risk of being called racist I must ask a question of you nice locals in the Morristown area. Reading posts in various forums and newspapers it seems that the illegal alien problem is on the rise in this area. My question is does this affect how you live your life? Are actions being taken by the authorities to bring this "problem" under control and if not why not?

Why do you ask?

The question was politely asked because we are considering moving to the Morristown area and we dont want to be trapped in an area if the "situation" deteriorates and the property values plummet

I did not intend this to become a political thread. I have been reading the Morristown Citizen Tribune and am concerned at the number of times that the illegal issue has been reported on. My daddy told me that where there is smoke there is fire so I asked for a response from local citizens of Hamblen county. I repeat my original question...has the illegal problem caused you trouble with your day to day lives in Tenn?

I realize this, but with sensitive topics it is easy to get off topic, no biggie, just a reminder to folks is all.

No, illegal immigration has not affected my day to day life. As I mentioned earlier, it seems to be a place by place, case by case thing in East Tennessee but maybe others could shed a different light.

Thank you TnHilltopper for your responses. I realize this is a sensitive topic but it is like the elephant in the middle of the room and nobody wants to talk about it and the last time that I checked we still have freedom of speech. So how about it folks. No political stuff, just your experiences good or bad.

I do not have any personal experiences in Morristown, TN with illegals.

I live about 40 miles from Morristown, but have not had any experiences good or bad. I am curious though as to what type of "situations" are you concerned about or that have been reported.

I wonder why the hispanic population in Morristown is higher than most any other city in east TN? What is it about the area? Its not that big of a city. Here in Bristol, its only about 1% hispanic. I know a few (very nice folks) , but the percentage here is low and we are a much larger city.
