Looks like Greenville might be out of the question. I would hate to move to an area and then find out my wife and I are truly not excepted. I guess I will try out Cookeville and the tri-city area. Any opinions of the cities in the tri-city area?

Amen about the lack of planning in Greeneville. I don't understand why they put the new 8-screen theater way beyond what I consider the western terminus of town. I mean, it's 20 minutes from Walmart in traffic. And all the restaurants. Wth!!!
Eta- to the last poster, Greeneville isn't that clannish socially (when I lived there, my nice neighbors were from Michigan and Maryland), but when it comes to getting a job, that may be where you run into a bit of trouble.

Jobs won't apply to me. So I don't care about the job market. Just a beautiful, safe place with things to do for me and my family where my hispanic wife won't deal with prejudice.

I honestly don't think you'll have any problems either in Cookeville or the Tri Cities area. Cookeville and Johnson City are both college towns with people from all over the world. Cookeville also has a rather large Hispanic community, over 3,000 according to 2006 Census statistics (4.6 percent of the county population). Washington County (Johnson City) has a little over 2,000 (1.9 percent of the population). I know that's nothing like what you have in South Texas, but up here those are pretty sizable Hispanic communities.
Something else you might want to consider. If you plan on going back to Texas for visits, or if family and friends from Texas want to come visit you, flying in and out of Nashville costs about half what it does out of Knoxville or the Tri Cities. Cookeville is only an hour from the Nashville airport. Southwest Airlines flies to Nashville but not to anywhere else in Tennessee, unfortunately.

Just curious why you say this. If I remember correctly you were always a big fan of the country areas.

To get a whole bunch of opinions on the Tri-Cities see the Kingsport/Johnson City/Bristol Sub forum of the TN forum. Lots of great info and pictures too of the area.

I really don't believe you would run into a problem in Greeneville. I go there all the time and I've never encountered any ill will. I'm not hispanic, but I am often wearing a University of Florida t-shirt or sweatshirt and I assure you Tennesseans have a much larger dislike of Gators than of Hispanics.
