Tellico Plaines has some basic shopping, but for Wal-Mart you need to go to Athens or Madisonville, both about 20 miles away. As far a schools go, it depends what your frame of reference is. Monroe County has three high schools. One, Sweetwater, is having some problems. Sequoyah is fairly large, so it has facilities/course offerings that I suspect are unavailable in Tellico Plaines, which has, I think, the smallest high school.
If you are looking for a school that will compete with a suburban school system in the mid west or north east, forget about it, but I'm sure that a good basic education can be had. Keep in mind that we only spend about $6,300 per pupil per year
