Congratulations to LauraC
Congratulations to LauraC for being a finalist in the CD photo contest, and to "I Love North Carolina" for the winning photo. I wish I had went and voted now.
Here's a link to all the photos: http://www.city-data.com/forum/photo...p-10-11-a.html
I like Laura's photo of a song sparrow, as well as that photo of a titmouse that someone else entered.

Kudos, LauraC! Nice shot!
I Love North Carolina's photo looked like the backdrop to Scarlet vowing she'd never be hungry again. Leave it to a Hollywood expat to notice that...

Thanks so much. Did you notice I actually knew the name of the bird? I'm getting there.
Now if I could only tell the difference between a rooster and a hen and a chicken by sight...or are they all chickens?

Here's a couple of illustrations (click to enlarge).
A rooster and a hen (Rhode Island Red)
Two dominique hens and a rooster
Notice how much larger the comb (red part on top of the head) and wattle (red part under the beak) is on the roosters, who are usually quite a bit larger as well.
And, typical for males, the roosters strut around like they're doing something, while the hens do all the work. ;-)
