Chattanooga Times Free Press | Georgia officials say facts, law back their claim to river
I believe it is offically "on". Georgia is serious. Our piece of property is near all of this commotion, but I hope we stay Tennessee. We chose Tennessee for a reason, including no income tax, wouldn't this be a kick if it somehow was approved?

I think you can rest assured, Grizzly, that this is as dead as a doornail!

I think this whole thing is so silly and childish. That is funny about sending the bottled water. I hope Ga. is embarrassed, they should be!

That is funny, Grizzly. You are pretty close to the border, I hear! I might be passing into TN about the time you are passing out (in more than one sense!)
I just bought an orange and white sweater. Ever hoping!

Chattanooga Times Free Press | Chamber questions Georgia claim to Tennessee land
This new article brings out several points I hadn't considered. IF Georgia were to win this battle, it would set precedent for Alabama and Mississippi to also make claims.
I wonder how much money this whole chase is costing Georgia and Tennessee. That's the shame of this...
My wife stated that watching the news recently, Georgia resorvoirs are back on the rebound from winter rains. Is that what any of you are seeing, particularly you North Georgia folks?

I live in East Ridge, less than a mile from the GA border. Not that GA is going to get their state line changed, but the scenario is interesting. People in this area would FREAK OUT if they were become Georgians through no choice of their own. East Ridge is it's own city, and half of the homes would go to GA. The rest would have to be annexed by the city of Chattanooga, as the town would not survive without the tax base. Then there are GA state income taxes. People in TN think that the term "state income tax" is dirty. Many people in this community have lived here their entire lives. My neighborhood is full of elderly folks who have lived here for 40-50 years. I'm tellin' you, you're going to see some serious cane-shaking if this even makes it to court. Georgia legislators will be attacked in dark alleys by gangs of little old ladies.
Here's a little slap in the face to Georgia: Chattanooga is building a new water park, and it's going to be about 2 miles from the GA border. I guess GA will want that too!

Grizzly, I live on Lake Lanier and can see that we have gained about 6 feet of rain water over the course of the last two months. We are still down 11 feet!
The big answer to this situation is to get the Army Corps of Engineers to back off on their millions of gallons a day that is getting siphoned off to Floriday and then dumping in the the Gulf.
I know that the reserves here will recover. They had the same problem (although, not as severe about 8 or 9 years ago. It is cyclical.) The ACE just over reacted to the rare species of mussels in the Gulf that were being threatened by lack of rain and that is what set this whole thing off.
It will take the entire summer of normal rainfalls to get the lake levels back up to within a normal range. But, it will happen, if not this year, then over the next couple.
I cannot see that Georgia stands a chance of getting the federal government involved in changing the current state boundaries. It is assinine to say the least. It means more than some current TN residents becoming GA residents. It would encompass so much $$$ and years of paperwork, changing statutes that would lead to changes of other things that nobody in their right mind would pursue this.
It is only two goofy legislators who have their back up - and probably property on one of the lakes - who are pushing this. Most politicians in GA want nothing to do with it. Reason will win in the end and everybody will pick up their marbles and go home - if they haven't lost them all.

I can imagine those living along the border would be up in arms.
McMar - "Some serious cane shaking" - lol
We down in Florida have gone through the same thing several years ago, and as Gem stated, the water levels returned to normal. I'll be curious to see how far they push this.
