I know a person who has seen at least two in Rutherford County. Maybe people have seen more and dismissed it as an opossum without looking a bit longer? I definitely saw a prairie dog near Blair Rd. at Rock Springs Rd. a few years ago.

Anybody else with odd animal sightings?

Other than a few people who believe they saw cougars, no.
I'm not sure how anyone can mistake an armadillo with a opossum, but I'm looking forward to seeing my first in TN.

To add, one night my son was driving home at night and saw a strange animal in the road, he stopped got it and brought it home to me. It was an old ferret. I don't know if it was lost or dumped but we named her George and she lived in the barn for another 2 years.

On I-24, between Chattanooga and Nashville, I have seen them starting after Monteagle, on the way to Nashville. They wasn't alive though.

That's about 70 miles from the LaVergne/Smyrna area armadillo sightings. Not all that far.

I'm not convinced there's an actual armadillo population here, as I have seen no live ones.

I've seen them as Far East as Cumberland county dead on the road. They have been reported in the Knoxville area, by local media but I know no one who has seen one there. They will eventually cover the entirr state as they continue thier migration east. It took 90 years for them to get this far from the Mexican border area.
