Set up an access list for only the computers that will access the router (your computers) and/or put a wep password on the router and on each of the computers. If you set it up on the router, it will force the other computers to have the same wep password in order to connect. See if this helps.

By the way, some of our computers are so far away from the router here at our place we had to put in a wireless bridge; which is why I asked the distance question.
I am thinking this too as it seems to happen more in the afternoon and night

WOWAddict is on a distinguished road
If you live in a cookie cutter neighborhood (homes pretty close together) then I would worry about security. If you live on a lot where you can fit another house in between I would not be as concerned. I live on a zero lot line w/ a linksys router and I have tired to use my laptop next door and could not connect. Go ahead an secure it just because you should but doubt it is the root of your problem.

Next thing is it the router strength or the internet connection? In the bottom right there should be a little computer icon to see the router strength. On your machine it should be excellent. Also what are you doing when you get bad connection? Printing, web surfing, etc.

And just for (expletive)s and giggles make sure the router isnt burried under Hanna Montana or any other age equivalent junk.

What kind of internet connection are you using cable or dsl?

Also pay close attention to which computers are being used and what is being done on those computers when the slowness occurs.
