Off the famous people list, I know for a fact that Oprah Winfrey is from Kosciusko, MS and Ralph Sampson is from Laurel, MS.

And as soon as Oprah Winfrey was old enough, she left Mississippi for Nashville and was raised there by her father. After graduating from high school in Nashville, she attended college in Nashville and then got her start in the TV business at Nashville's WTVF.

She is a native of Mississippi but has always said that Nashville is where she is "from."

She wasn't born here, but she grew up here. She went to Harpeth Hall.

This is true of Oprah, but Ralph Boston (Olympic Gold Metal in Long Jump) grew up in Laurel, MS graduating from Oak Park HS. He did go to college in TN, but he is not from TN.

I'm surprised Steve Spuurrier isn't on the list. He did play football at The University of Florida, but he is a graduate of Science Hill High School in Johnson City, TN.

Ralph Sampson was born in Harrisonburg, VA.

yeah but he's from Florida. He moved here with his parents right before he started high school.
