Second, the out-of-control commodities speculation going on by individuals and by mutual funds managers. Third, the price of corn and corn-related products (meat, etc.) is skyrocketing because of the push for ethanol. Only an idiot would attempt to use a primary food source as an energy source, especially when it is so inefficient to do so; we have Midwestern congresspersons to thank for that.
And Archer Daniels Midland's influence.

I saw that NBC report. Then I heard the 30% number from another source, CNN I think it was. I don't know why there is such a disparity in the reporting, but you can sure see the increase in a loaf of bread. I'm not sure which is going up faster, gas or food.

Global warming is not just a hot topic around the world these days, many of us believe that human activities are the cause of the problem. Fuel cost has gone through the roof. Have we used too much energy? If it is true, one of the activities is using our cars everyday. No matter what you think, one thing for sure for all of us is that the cars do create pollution and we have to use cars. What can we do? Lets explore a new idea; Share Our car and Saving! This is a SOS.

What is the idea of SOS?
Most of us drive the car with no passengers. If we can use our car to take someone in the street to go to work, to shopping or to go to somewhere and we get paid. That is that we share our cars and save money and the earth.

How can we do it? Let me explain the process.

First of all, we need present ourselves as a trusted driver or a trusted passenger. The Police will be able to issue a trusted card to us. The card will show your name, your photo and your being trusted level, which will be a big number. The card will have to be renewed every year. The trust level can move up and down depending on how many times of being trusted. I will talk about this later. Once we have this process to be used to establish the trusted relationship between the driver and the passenger, we will be able to start the business. That means the passenger will have to pay the drive to cover the cost. That is it, take someone with you or you get a ride with somebody.

Let me use an example to demonstrate how it works.

Every morning, I will wait in the front of my house or a bus stop nearby with my trusted passenger card where also shows where I want to go to and how much I will pay to the driver. When a driver who has a trusted driver card, is willing take me to wherever I need to go, then I will have the ride. Once I get into the car, of cause I will have to pay to driver as agreed. Furthermore, both of us will exchange our name and contact number, which should be written on the card of other site. This will be used for lifting our trust level. Then I will be taken to my office or a bus stop closed to my office.

After working, I will do the same thing at the front of my office or a nearby bus stop and go home without driving my car.

This might cost more than taking a bus but it is certainly cheaper than taking a taxi and it saves our time. More importantly, this will make our environment less polluted, save our energy and even make a saving. This is flexible and economical as the driver will be able to decide whether I should be picked up and also I will be able to choose whether I should take the ride. As time goes by, more likely the driver who picks me up would be one of my neighbour and we would likely build a friendship as well.

SOS is just an idea and we think it is practical and economical. It is important because it will make our environment less polluted. We need to work together to make it working. Lets start it now!

Your idea or comments are much welcomed.

I want to drive. I want to drive by myself. I don't want you in my business. I don't want the government in my business. I don't want you telling me who to make friends with or who and how I should trust them. I want you to stop pestering Congress into making all of these stupid concessions to your lobbyists effectively making them the lamest collective bunch of politicians I have ever seen in my 50 plus years of life and that includes both political parties and both presidential candidates.

We can't use coal, we can't drill for oil, we can't put up wind farms, we can't go nuclear but you want to tell me who I should pick up in my car and create another clusterbleep for the police.

I agree with LauraC in the previous post. I'm tired of increasing socialism/governmental interference and the concept that everyone has a better idea of what I should be doing with my time, money, home, car and other resources. The earth has been warming and cooling for eons and will continue to do so. When I was in school years ago we heard stories about "The New Ice Age" complete with pictures of the Statue of Liberty encased in a glacier. The destruction of our civilization was at hand.

Sounds funny? It was the best thinking of the time, laughable today. Today's "crisis" thinking falls into the same category and will, in time, be thrown into the same scrapheap.

As a police officer, let me say that I want nothing to do with this....

"The Police will be able to issue a trusted card to us."

I have enough to do trying to keep up with all the people who are driving the streets with suspended drivers licenses, no insurance, expired registrations and warrants for not coming to court when they were supposed to. I sure don't want to be issuing any type of card that says anyone is "trusted". Big time liability there when some "trusted" traveler robs, rapes or kills someone and then they find a "trusted card" with my name and badge number on it at the scene. No thanks!
