Hopefully someone who is familiar with Camden TN can help me. My husband's company wants him to relocate there. We really dont want to pass this up, though i am a little worried about the previous post's about drugs....thiefs....is it really that bad or is it just like any other town in the US? What I really need though is we need to find somewhere to stay. Days Inn and Country Heart Inn are possibilities for the first week or so but they are rather expensive. Does anyone know if these are decent inside and in a good part of town. Also any real estate places that deal with rentals? Fishing areas?Anything else I might need to know about or find interesting..Thank you so much for anyones help.

My sister has lived in Eva (a few miles up the road) for 20 years and loves it. My BIL does a little of everything and has always made a living on his own.
If the company has work for hubby there, shouldn't be a problem.
I don't believe the drug problem is any worse in Benton county than anywhere else. True, there are quite a few, shall we say less than ambitious folks around. But most everyone we have met there has been very friendly and helpful.
Talk to Brenda at Great Start (C-21) realty in Camden. We bought our property from her and she was great. In fact, I think the man we bought from still has other land for sale reasonably priced.
Camden is a small town, and to be honest a little run down. But there is Kentucky Lake and lots of deer and turkey. Plenty of fishing and hunting; some premier duck hunting I'm told.
No mountains, but lots of rolling hills. Paris is very close, and Jackson is less than an hour down I-40.
It's definitely rural living. Low taxes and insurance, and utilities. Peaceful. 42 people per sq mile.

Camden Tennesse The place I want to be
I am sure that every town in the United States have there pro's and con's. But let me tell you what I have found out about Camden.
I had 1 acre of land in Florida with a mobile home. My property taxes for last year was $8,600.00. That was just property taxes. No fire hydrants within 4 miles. No City water, no Sewer System, No Sidewalks and I could go on and on.
I sold my property from December 4 until December 28th. I closed on property in Florida and purchased a home in Camden and was moved in by the 28th of December.
56 acres with 5,000 sq. ft. home Property taxes last year was 962.00. I am sure that will increase But in Florida the taxes from 1 year to the next they increased $4800.00. And received nothing in the way of public access to various services,
Camden is a small town, People are friendly, They do not resent you moving into their town they welcome you. Excellent quality of workman to assist you in building, construction, and the city services are excellent. Benton county courthouse just 6 miles.
We have lived here for 6 months and you will not find anyone who is not helpful, courteous and kind.
Backwoods I don't think so. They have some of the nicest school system of anywhere I have found. I guess what really made me fall in love with it.
There is a child across the road who rides the school bus. The school bus driver in the afternoons blows the horn to let Grandma know he is on his way inside. I like that people up here care about others.
If you look out my back sliding door in the mornings. Deer up to 5 or 8 at a time. Hummingbirds, Finches . Ladies and Gentlemen this is God's Country.

I just moved to Camden since I retired from Southern Calif. Do they have any good clubs I can join to meet people. I am busy fixing up my home the way I like. I grew up in a small Florida town and was born in Memphis. Everyone seems nice around here.

Personally I like it here, yes it's a small town...and thats a good thing to me. As far as jobs Dupont, TVA, Inland and Chem-metals(dont think thats the name now) are all just 12 miles away in J'ville. And as stated above, Paris is 20 miles away with several other opportunities.
I don't know why people move here and then seem so amazed that it's a small town. Did they not drive through before buying, I don't know. Its a great place for outdoors activities, raising kids and not getting upset if you didn't lock the door when you run to town.
Anyway, I like it here and hope you will as well.
Good luck

[quote=HogtownQueen;2183023]Dude, why don't you leave? I moved here from Gainesville, FL about 13 months ago. GO THERE!!!! You can get lost in the influx of college students.
As for tattoos and methheads...you gotta be kidding and the retired folk? Dammit man, you got nothing good to say, why bother. Is this your "venting place"? Try a Primal Scream...out your back door...maybe you'll get picked up and TAKEN away.
Nope, there's not a LOT of work here...and there area lot of druggies...but that is everywhere. You live in the Great United States of America where we are free to be....my Gawd, christopchristoph, getta grip.
Camden is a LITTLE town. If you were born here and don't like it, MOVE. If you moved here and don't like it, MOVE. I think it's a great little place to bring up children...and there are still a lot of TREES and LAKES and the magnificent TENNESSEE RIVER.......look around. Put a smile on your face instread of a snarl and you might find some good here. if you don't, the MOVE

It just depends on what you want. Camden is a great place to raise a family and live a quiet life. You will find many good friends and good people. I lived in Camden for a long time. It's not a big city so don't be expecting that. It's a rural town. I've lived in a lot of places and there are drugs everywhere and hypocrites.
