No need to send receipts, there's just no tax.

Default yeah, but

Make sure and read all the fine print on the state website before you just go out shopping. Not everything is tax free, it's a limited holiday. Clothing items over $100 don't qualify, neither do computers over $1500 or most computer components. Sucks for me, I build my computers from pieces. Also a lot of seemingly random things will still be taxable. Belt buckles, fabric, watches.....the list goes on. People with kids in school who need to buy lots of school clothes and supplies seem to come out pretty good but it's never done much for me.

Usually the price of the items is increased on no tax days or when a business says "we pay your sales tax".I worked in retail for awhile so i have witnessed their sneeky business practices.

I take advantage of the sales tax weekends every year because I do have two kids in school. I have found most stores here in the Tri-Cites have HUGE sales that weekend too. And yes, they really do drop the price. So when tax free items are advertised at 30% off, it is really like getting at 40% off due to the sale tax being almost 10%. The stores also benefit from volume sales in the one weekend. My sister in-law used to be a manager for a local clothing store and said they loved sales tax free weekend as they would have a huge sale and start their inventory counting the following Monday. Easier to count when there are less items in the store, less chance of paying over time to the employees to get the inventory complete in the same day etc.

Smile This is great news. Thanks, John - as always!

That will be fantastic for TN shoppers. Here in GA the week before most schools start has a 2 or 3 day Tax Free shopping on those items needed for school. TN shoppers will love an extra day of tax-free shopping for their kiddos!

As a teacher I would just absolutely clean up. Even if I bought more than I could use in the school year, there were other teachers who ran short and I could help them out. Teachers have to count on spending several hundred dollars a year to have enough supplies for their classroom.

Clothing, school supplies, electronic equipment needed for school, etc. are all included in these tax breaks and it is wonderful for young families with limited funds.

And, who doesn't like to save 8 - 9% on their purchases?

no kids in school, so the tax holiday for me is useless. but a short trip across the state line to KY saves plenty. no tax on food and everything else 6%.
