Default I LOVE Eastern TENNESSEE!

Hi,everyone I just returned from east tn, I loved it , yes i am from Florida, the place with nooo future for middle class families trying to make a life! We have been here over 25 years and it is crowded, stressful, and after staying with my friends in Newport 2 weeks back , i am still recovering from the culture shock. You have SPACE- everywhere! It's beautiful! Mountains and pastures, little Christmas card house settings, I want cry, I am planning to relocate to Johnson city or Greeneville, but getting a job worries my husband he drives a truck for the county and wants to find another job with benefits. I am a dental assistant/ jack of all trades when needed, but he wants security. Any suggestions. I took lots of pictures that I will try to post when I develop them. I went thru and stopped at Chattanooga, Nashville, Knoxville ( IS HUGE BY THE WAY!), Newport(3 days), Greeneville, Jonesburo, and JoHnson city...yes we drove all the way from Miami Fla! Words can not express the beauty of the autumn colors, winding roads, mountain veiws, but most of all southern hospitality Tennessee has one of the nicest folks around!!! thanks for the experience!!!!!!!

Is Knoxville too huge? Compared to what, do you think? I'm hoping to relocate to eastern TN sometime in 2007. Looking at Maryville, with Knoxville close by. Want to relocate to an area that is "semi-small", with a larger town close by.

I've been to eastern TN ~ Gatlinburg, several times. The beauty is breath-taking!

Hmmm, I guess if your from a smaller city, Knoxville may seem large. I just moved here from the Dallas area and I feel like I'm living out in the countryside being in west Knoxville. Maryville is pretty small IMO. Both are nice though.

Hey,

I am from St. Petersburg in Pinellas County, FL. I stayed in Knoxville for a couple of weeks in October and November, and the land area is about the size of the county I live in, but not as densly populated.

The main thing is the highways; there are A LOT of them. The farther east you go in Knoxville, towards downtown, the more congested it gets, and there are more businesses and warehouses. In west Knoxville, towards Maryville, Alcoa, and Farragut, it gets more residential and quiet. There are some very nice neighborhoods in Farragut, just a little bit out of our price range, though (usually between $200,000 and $250,000 for the nicer houses in the better neighborhoods).

Pretty much anywhere you go in or around Knoxville, it doesn't take very long to get out to a more country-like area, with lots of acreage, and very few businesses or busy roads. And because of the highway system, even if you went to a town farther away, such as Sweetwater or Madisonville (?), it wouldn't take very long to get to Knoxville (except during rush hour).

I hope this helps a little bit.

Hi Lookin4Mtn--- I moved last year from Palm Beach Cty to Johnson City- do you have kids? This is beautiful country for them- we have an acre- and no HOA fees!- we looked at Greeneville too- a little further out -you could get more land there though. People are very polite, it's a little slower- but Johnson City is 50,000 population and it has some of the best hospitals- you should have no problem as a dental asst finding work. When we drove up it took 14 hours-lol- driving in a U-Haul with three shar-peis. Quite an experience.

Good luck and feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
sunny

Yes hiknapster- but for personal issues- lol- I wont get into it since this isnt the right forum. But it is nice here for raising a family. Just not a big metro area- like where I have lived before- (I am learning to be objective)

sunny.
