Looking at Dickson County
Hello Everyone,
We are looking at moving to Dickson County this summer. I have done a lot of research on the area and it has pretty much everything we are looking for (from what I can find). I have a couple questions that I can't get a really good answer on tho. How are the schools there? I have 5 children ages 12, 9, 7, 6, and 3. I'm looking at the Elementry and JR High schools. How is the medical field? I have 2 children that have special needs so the specialist can't be too far away. We are looking for homes with property that aren't too expensive. Right now we are in the Phoenix, AZ area and we are looking for a smaller place to live. We would like somewhere that is very family oriented, has all the seasons (does it snow???), jobs close enough to commute if needed (DH does computer work), activities for the kids/adults/family, ect. Like I said before, I have done a lot of research on this myself, but I would like to hear from others who are out there. TIA for the help!!!

I live in White Bluff in Dickson Co. For almost 30 years. There is currently alot of new houses being built here in town. The property here is not as high as in the City of Dickson, nor is our property taxes. There is not however alot of places to eat and things to do family wise. People either go to Dickson or Bellevue, this is west of Nashville. Has a mall, stores and pretty much everything else. Depending on your field of work, you might end up with a job in Nashville. Specialists in the Medical field are at the 3 major hospitals in Nashville . There are many on the west side of Nashville which would be about a 45 min drive. There is a hospital in Dickson, it is small, some of the doctors are affiliated with the hospitals in Nashville and some have offices in both locations.Having 2 children who went through the schools here in White Bluff, The elementary School I would recommend. The Middle School I personally do not. We have a new High School in the county where it opened up a couple of years ago.Students who live in parts of the Burns area go to Dickson Middle School and Dickson High School I would recommend. There is a elementary school called Stuart-Burns which is a very good school. You probably could find a reasonable home there. I would make sure which schools my children would attend first before buying. There is also alot of growth going on there too right now.It is on a few minute from White Bluff and is closer to the City of Dickson. We sometimes do get snow. But not that often. Right now we are enjoying 50's.You could go to Gatlingurg for some snow. It's a good place to visit and I'm sure your family would enjoy it. Hope this helps you. Good luck.

Hi Jennifer,
We live in White Bluff, TN, which is closer to Nashville than any other city in Dickson County. While White Bluff is a small town but it is still convenient to just about everything you need. You can get a feel for "country living" but West Nashville is only about 20-25 minutes away. Dickson is only about 10-15 minutes and there is all of the traditional amenities you would need (Walmart, Lowes, grocery stores, hospital, restaurants, etc.).
