Default Schools outside of Putnam County

We are finally here! Our home is under contract in Montana. We found two places we like, but they are outside of Putnam county. There has been a lot of talk about how great the Cookeville schools are, but not much about those bordering counties. We need to make a decision about where to rent for the next year. School is a heavy factor in our decision. We have one in second and one almost ready for K-garten. We found one rental in Overton County, and one in White county. We called Putmnam county and they are definatley not accepting out of county kids. Does anyone know anything about those school systems. Are they good, great, bad, average?? Also please give me ammo to your argument. Please not just a my kid had a mean teacher so the entire school system is corrupt! We searched some school rating websites, but I don't know for sure what they use to rank the schools. I don't care how much they "spend per child", I just want my child to have a good chance at being competetive academically with her peers.

JMT??

Congrats on selling your house in Montana!!!

I'm not sure that there's much of a difference between schools in White County and those in Overton County. To be honest, I don't think it matters too much at such early grades, either, particularly if it's going to be for only a year. I personally like Overton County better than White County, although I have no hard stats to back it up. It's more just a feeling. I'm sure people who are partial to White County can make a good case for their home county.

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful. Maybe some others in that area will have more to add?

In the meantime, I hope your move to the Cookeville area goes smoothly! Keep us posted.

I agree that it doesn't matter too much at early ages if the parents are invovled, but I don't want to move my kids to a new district after we just moved and left their friends in another year. I want to avoid doing that to them again. Hard choice to make. We are talking to the Lord about it tonight. Thanks for the feedback so far. Would love to see the opinions keep coming.
