Default What are the rules for cow grazing?

Hi, this might be a silly question but I would like an honest answer. If I were to buy some land with acreage and I wanted some cattle to maintain the lawn...is it customary to charge the cattle owners or they charge me or how does this work do we barter? Thanks jR city guy hehe

we bought property last year. our neighbor runs his cows on it, and he keeps the tall grass and bushes down using a brush hog a couple times a year. will probably give him some $ to help with gas as it is getting more expensive. also he watches over it for us

From what I have heard from a few farmer friends is that you can "lease" your pasture land to a local farmer, or the barter plan works too. Some share hay from the fields if they are cut and some receive beef for the use of the land. It all really depends on who benefits most from the use of the land. Some will offer to pay a portion of your tax bill, or some such trade. Any agreement and hand shake deal you come up with between you works round these parts. I would love to have enough land to barter for some good beef myself.
