Default Fireflies?

Do you get fireflies/lightning bugs in TN? I soooooooooo hope so. I really miss them and am hoping that when we move to TN that I can sit on the porch as the sun goes down and watch those magical insects float around.

There are still gazillions of 'em in East Tennessee! At age 45 I'm about as enthralled w/ them now as I was 40 years ago.

I get a little sad every fall to see them go, same as with the crickets, katydids & cicadas which are still soul-soothing music to my ears after all this time.

BTW, if you should end up living in the Sevierville area, here's something special you don't want to miss:
Appalachian Voice - The Synchronous Fireflies of Elkmont
Firefly Show at Elkmont - Great Smoky Mountains National Park (http://www.imagesbuilder.com/gsmnp/firefly-show.html - broken link)

I'm glad that you asked that question. And I'm very glad to hear the answer. I was trying to tell my Grand daugther about them just the other day. I told her when I was a kid they were all over the place. Maybe when we move to Tennessee I can show her. Now I can tell her for sure.
Here in Florida I haven't seen any in a long time.
Thanks.

Sevierville is at the top of our list, actually. Thanks for those links! Reading about the experience makes me want to see it first-hand! Wow!

i'd love to see that synchronized flashing!! But i love watching the common, ordinary ones too.... Nothing like sitting on the back porch with all the lights off.... looking out over the pastures toward the mountains... hearing the summer night sounds and watching the magic of the lightning bugs....*sigh*

This brings back fond memories of growing up in Louisiana. I can't wait to see fireflies again when I retire in Tennessee.
