I think Phyll better come back as a farmer's wife. Life as a cow could end up being short.

Moose are rather stupid when it comes to hunting them. They will stand there and look at you. My brother has his one and only moose hunt on video tape.

Back to springtime . . .

My Bradford pear and crabapple will be in bloom by next weekend. The crabapple is a beautify dark pink/light red. It's a little delicate however; some years I get to enjoy it for almost two weeks, and some years there will be a storm that blows the blooms away after only a few days.

If anyone else has a crabapple, you can cut off a few twigs (as soon as they're showing just a little bit of color on the buds), put them in water and have a nice indoor flower arrangement.

Could you, would you, please take a photo of it to post? Its so cold and snow and ice covered here, that we've forgotten what spring looks like.

I arrived mid-May so I missed all of the April flower-related/Dogwood/Redbud stuff and remember all of the redbud photos on City Data and wishing I arrived sooner but I recall you told me I arrived during an unusually cool May. It was in the low 60s for the first two weeks I was here and that was fine by me.

I want to say on a fantastic note, I just resigned my lease and my rent only went up $10 (in NY and MD it used to go up $50 every year) but on a not as good note, it looks like electric may rise 7% soon in the town and I think, across East Tennessee.

So, what does a Bradford Pear in bloom look like? I've only seen them in Fall and Winter - well, actually I may have seen them before that, I just didn't know at the time they were Bradford pears. No fruit, right?

They are completely covered in white blooms; this is before they leaf out completely. Yes, they actually have little pears . . . about the size of a marble and sort of "gritty" tasting.
