They are too small to be marketable, except possibly for pulpwood, and you won't get much for them, if anything. If they are logged, they will leave stumps and slash, which you don't want.

What you want is a reliable guy with a dozer who knows what he is doing and will honor the state burn permit requirements. He will push the trees over and shove them into burn piles. Two good sources to ask are the country building department and the country road department.

Make those county, not country.

“NO BURN, NO HAUL!
Perfect for lot, and utility clearing, mulching clears overgrown vegetation and restores property without the inherent dangers of burning or the expense of hauling to rid property of refuse. Mulching machines have a low center of gravity, and are not affected by stumps, unlike a tractor/bush hog. Most mulch all trees and underbrush 8" and less in circumference, with the capability of mulching up to 16” in circumference.

Mulching is the only GREEN alternative to clear cutting, not to mention improved curb appeal. By reducing all of the unwanted underbrush you enable potential buyers to see what they are getting. With the underbrush removed potential buyers have ease of access and do not have to imagine how the lot “could” look. Mulching will add much needed moisture content and leaves the property with a “park like” effect. These machines cover as they go increasing property value through soil enrichment, water conservation and erosion control and can restore habitat and pasture without destruction to topsoil and desirable plant species. Since mulchers cut saplings and brush off at ground level, there are no stumps to burn or pull out.

Burning piles of brush get extremely hot and leave a scar at the site of the pile and in the surrounding area. They often become so hot, that they burn several inches into the topsoil level, sterilizing the ground and killing everything in it. Scars from burn piles can cause soil sterilization and damage that can last for up to three years. The flames, heat and smoke from brush piles damage not only the immediate soil area, but can also destroy damage and weaken nearby trees that are still standing. Many areas prohibit burning altogether due to the inherent dangers it presents and the amount of damage it causes to the environmental.

Since River City wandered in, dropped a single semi-informative post and never came back, I thought I'd pass this along:

Used to be a forestry equipment co AND a construction/land clearing company right off Decatur road as you exited the interstate and came up the hill to Athens. The construction company built the site for the new Cracker Barrel. They'd be worth checking into. I have no idea if either company is still there, been out of the area for over a year now.
