Hi Captain Dan,
Let me take this opportunity to thank you for your service to our country. What branch of the service are you in?
Perhaps our Moderator, MBMouse, could tell you how to change your forum identifier.

It is my understanding that only a super moderator can change names. Markablue, or something like that is her name.

To change your username you need to DM either Markablue or Yac and let them know what you want to change your username to; it's as simple as that. Good Luck! Congrats on becoming a Captain!

changing name
When I changed my forum name, all I did was message Markblue, and he changed it for me.
It's been a little confusing cause,
first we were moving to Tennessee,
then, we were moving to Idaho,
then, back to Tennessee.
For the last three years, I've been packed and ready to go.
I have boxes upon boxes just sitting in the garage.
Last April we once again put in for a transfer and off we went to
Tennessee. Unfortunetly, the timing wasn't right.
Couldn't sell our house, and we weren't about to go down as low as
they wanted us to. Had to turn back in the transfer.
So, here we still sit
Poor Mark had to change my forum name twice.
No more changes.
We are once again back on track.
We are coming next summer no matter what.
I have started going through my packed boxes.
I'm getting rid of some of the stuff that I packed.
Didn't use the stuff for three years, so might as well get rid of it.

Why not plan a trip to Jamestown? There are lots of horse people just outside Jamestown. Land is still reasonably priced, though going up. From there you can take short drives to Livingston (though the most direct route will make almost anyone carsick), Allardt, Oneida, Rugby, and more little towns. If you drive up Hwy 127 you will see the lovely towns of Pal Mal (or Pall Mall) and Forbus. These areas are PRISTINE, but may be farther than you would like from a city.
I highly recommend staying at Pickett State Park in one of the fairy tale-like stone cottages. There is also a great restaurant 3 miles from there called Bacara's. Big South Fork National Recreation area is just down the road also. One note about Jamestown: the area is very poor, although new middle-income and higher income homes are being built. You will find a run town trailer with yard full of trash right up the road from a high-end neighborhood of horse farms. If you can live with that diversity, then you'll like the area. Personally, I love it. I stay up at Pickett once a year and make day trips to all of the places I mentioned. Here are some links to pictures. I'll post some of my own if I get a chance later.

Tennessee transplants
HA-HA...
Don’t worry, its not just Floridians that want to take over Tennessee, its Californians too! (ME)
I have been out twice... (East Tennessee) I tried to pick the hottest and coldest times to see if I could "hack it" and I was kinda surprised at how nice it was. I heard horror stories about the humidity and cold. I guess it gets pretty humid in CA as I did not find it to be very bad at all. I love the summer heat in CA so it was nice for me there.
As for the winter, it was also quite gentle. Maybe just my timing, but I did not get to wear that big old jacket I bought just for the trip!
I just love it there, sorry. The people are amazing. Unbelievably nice and social. I love the scenery, the highways, all the small towns, the open space.. Variety of sights, etc.
I am a country bumkin at heart, and think ill do just great out there. We are coming in the summer of 09, so look out Tennessee!

Still trying to move to TN
I'm so new to this forum...I'm not sure how to start a new post. I would like to thank everyone for their input...we will try Jamestown. As I stated before we fell in love with Spencer and the surrounding Van Buren County and White and Warren county area....would anyone know of property 10-15 acres of lovely land in that area? We have tried looking on the web and realtors and now we have 5 trips under our belt still with no luck!! Though we have decided to look futher north our next trip...we were trying to stay in the center of the state. Still open for suggestions and help of where to look....Trying to map out our trip now....so all you informed TN folks...I'll look where you suggest....we are wanting complete privacy...small but not completely dead town...fairly close to a larger town...say 30 minutes to an hour. Lovely land in nice area...lovely meaning gently rolling...perhaps a view..next to pasture land or nice neighbors..budget for land around $80,000
thanks

We love the idea of living somewhere very rural and have fallen in love with TN. We fell in love with the very small town Spencer TN just outside of Sparta....due west of McMinnville. We thought we could find 15-20 acres around 80,000. I guess not...prices in that area are high due to some developers that recntly came in.
Now that we have exhausted that area with our last two trips its time to expand and start looking elsewhere that would possibly be similar. What we loved about Spencer is that it is a verrrrry small town with a load of lovely farms....cattle...views...mountain...sweet people and NO TRAFFIC at all....
We are trying to plan our next trip but really don't know where to look. I was told that land is much cheaper close to the TN/KY boarder....but where and what town would be nice but yet close to a major town for access to supplies...doctors...dentist...etc.
If anyone has any knowledge on this topic I would be sooo grateful. I'm new to this forum and hope it will be helpful. Thank you very much in advance for any suggestions. I really wanted to stay more in the middle of TN or further due east...not west. We like the mountains not the flat land which we are told is more west. Also told more floods to the west.
Desperate to leave FL
Betsy
