It may not have an address if no one has ever lived there before. In rural areas, many times the address they give you is the distance to your driveway from the closest main road.
Ex: your driveway is .175 miles from the closest main road, your address is 175 Main Road. That's how 911 knows where to find you.
Our driveway is .098 miles from SR641; our address is 98 Beech Acres Rd.
that's Benton County.

I can't thank you all enough. I was at a loss. The list of numbers for county offices plus the Morgan County numbers in Wartburg are so helpful. Of course, I came to work without the deed so I don't even have the legal description with me but I'll call them as soon as I get home. Thanks again. Anybody want to know anything about Charlotte Co in FL? We've been here (seems like forever) about 25 yr so I can answer many questions. Of course nobody wants to know about this county. It's hot, flat and many rude people live here. Of course, there are lots of nice folks too but the heat makes everyone mean. Again, thanks for your help.

Just because there is a 911 system, it does not mean there is already a numbered address. It will mean there is a range of numbered addresses established for that particular road. Unimproved land may or may not have an assigned numbered address. In rural counties, it generally won't have a numbered address. BTW, having services at the property does not mean it is improved.

I just went down that road, so to speak.

I just wanted to let everyone know how far I got with the information you all gave me. I called the post office in Sunbright, the town we bought in. At least we thought that's where it was. That's what is on the deed. Anyway, the postmistress, sweetest lady, told me we wouldn't get mail from there but from Lancing which is several miles farther from our land. She did tell me the 911 system would give us an address but I needed to know who the previous owners were. That's going to be a problem and it's complicated but we actually bought the land from an attorney who was representing the owner. I guess he was working on a legal issue for the owner and was owed money so he had the land quit claimed to him just prior to our closing. So, the deed states the attorney was the seller. Well, I'm going to continue to track this as we need an address. I'll keep you updated in case anyone wants to know. Thanks once more.

With all due respect, the Postmistress is probably wrong. We just got an address in another county. I called the 911 center. All they wanted was the name of the road and the tax map number. They did not care about the previous owner whatsoever.

You probably already have the tax map number. If you don't, call the Assessor's office and ask for it. They should be able to give it to you from the legal description. They may ask for the previous owner's name, because that would make it easier, but they can get it from the legal. The tax map number is often in the MLS listing, so you might look there if you have a copy. It is also usually in the contract, and is often used as substitute for a full legal description in the offer and acceptance documents. If nothing else, call the 911 center and ask them what they need.

If you bought the land prior to January 1, 2008, I can probably get the tax map information for you without any trouble directly off of the state public records system. If you like, DM me your name(s) and the information you do have. At a minimum, I need the name of the road and the name(s) of the buyer(s). I cannot obtain the previous owners name, unless the records have not changed yet. In that case, I can get it with the tax map number.

Thank you, Eat. I called the 911 system but had to leave a message. I think I rambled cause I didn't want to confuse the poor lady. I haven't heard anything yet but I'm hoping maybe by tomorrow. I the map # and parcel# from the deed so if they take that I'll be so happy. I also have U S Rt 27 listed as the address on the TN comptroller paper. I really appreciate you offering to do this but AND this is a huge but, I lost part of my hardrive. The part that controlled my email. I can't send or recieve any now. I'm looking for a laptop to take with us this summer but things are difficult in FL (I guess in most places) right now so making every penny count. Again, thank you for the offer and I'll let you know what happens. I've decided that if the worst happens and I can't get power, water and mail started for when we get there, we'll have to do it after we arrive. Not a great thought, three adults (granddaughter with us) and three dogs in a 34' 5th wheel with no power or water. Oh well, just a bump in the road to TN.
