getting an address
Hi everyone, We bought land in Morgan county a while ago and plan to go up this summer in our camper. There is already water, power lines run (not in service now) and septic in but no building (now or ever before). Does anyone know who to contact to get an actual address? We would like to have everything turned on when we get there but don't believe we can order services without an address and apparently addresses aren't issued until someone actually lives on site. We haven't been able to get a phone number for anyone but the phone company so don't even know who to contact. Have I run on long enough? Really confused and would so like some help. Thank for anything anyone can pass on.

The deed to your property should have an actual address listed on it.

It may have it. It may not. We own property which did not have a street address. It is quite common here. If there is no residence, there is no requirement for a street address, at least in some counties.
Call the Morgan County Planning and Zoning folks. They will know the answer. Likely, you will either have to call or send a form to the 911 center. In a lot of counties, they are the ones who assign street numbers. In any event, Planning and Zoning will know.

Thank you everyone. The deed just gives the legal description but no address. There is a pole at the road but how do I get the address from that? I'm going to try to get a number for the County Planning and Zoning. Maybe I'm just not "with it" but I haven't been able to come up with a number for anyone other than the phone company but I'm going to try again. We haven't tried the post office as, again, no number that I can find. We don't have a phone book so I'm trying online for these things. Thank you so much for the help. Now I know where to begin anyway. Didn't think of planning/zoning but was trying to find the "county office" which is where we go here (SW FL) for this type of thing. I'll let you know how we make out so if someone else runs into this everyone will know who to call and the number for them in Morgan County. Thanks again. We are so excited to finally get up there. We'd hoped to build and move permanently this summer but with the RE market as it is here, it will be a while. Thanks one more time.

I'm not sure if there is a 911 system in place? If there is a 911 system, there is already an address, contact the county and the post office. If the post office doesn't assign addresses anymore because 911 has come in, then contact 911, they should be able to guide you on who to contact about an address.
Good luck,
Pam

Here's a list of Morgan County Officials. It's a small county. Call the County Mayor's office and ask for help. They should be willing to help you out. If not, ask which commissioner would represent you.

Although not in Tennessee, I purchased rural land in Virginia that did not have an address. I contacted 911 and they gave it to me.
