Default Celina - Information Requested

Hello Everyone,
My husband, son and I, my sister-in-law and her husband and my mother-in-law just returned from Tennessee for vacation. Seven years ago my husband and I got bit by the "Tennessee bug" as we call it. We are planning on moving there within the next year. I was born and raised in NY, my husband is a native Floridian. As is his mother. Everyone enjoyed themselves very much. I was able to take my son ice skating (first time on skates for me in 28 years), make snow angels, snowmen, have snowball fights and overall enjoy the beauty that snow casts on the trees and mountains. In our eyes Tennessee is the closest thing to heaven. Florida has nothing on Tennessee. The hospitality is way beyond compare. And it is done with sincerity not that false sense you get when someone smiles at you. The food was always delicious. I just can't say enough about Tennessee and all that it offers.
I would like to know if anyone can tell me about life in Celina? That is our choice for a home. We have found one we are trying to get. I would be working in Fentress County, however, at Jamestown Regional Medical Center. I would be transferring from Florida. Does Celina have good restaurants, entertainment and lots of snow in the winter? My sister-in-law wants to know if there is a Super-Walmart in or around Celina? hahaha. Thanks for listening.

There isn't much going on in Celina. No Wal-Mart,unemployment rate is the third highest in the state, not many restuarants, usually snows a little a few times a year.

Clay county is a beautiful area, but no growth and very little to do.

Do you realize how far the drive to Jamestown is? You'll be spending a couple hours a day commuting to work.

Why wouldn't you consider Jamestown for your home? And btw they even have a super Wal-Mart

Gary's right. There is absolutely no easy or quick way to get from Celina to Jamestown no matter how close they look on the map.
I guess the only logical way would be to take hwy.52 all the way but that will take you back through Livingston then up through Alpine etc.
You'd be be dizzy & wobbly-legged by the time you got to work everyday.

If you just don't like Jamestown as a place to live, how 'bout Livingston? It has way more to offer than Celina & would at least cut your drive in half.

I'm also thinking about moving to a quiet little town. What does this town do for entertainment? Do you ever organize trade fairs or social gatherings or 4th of July parades?

As I read threads like these with amusment, I wonder what has happened. Twenty years ago people would not have moved to Celina if you gave them a bucket of money. All I use to hear were jokes about backwards barefoot hillbillies, and how there was nothing to do in the entire state and why would anyone want to live in Tn. What has changed?

Have you actually spent any time in Celina or taken that drive to Jamestown?

If you're going to work in Jamestown you might as well live there. Celina's in the middle of nowhere, atleasts that's the impression I got the one time I drove through it, atleast I think I drove through it, It may have just been a trailer park.
You'll have to go to an ice skating rink to do much ice skating.

Although I like TN and it has grown on me (like a fungus) one of the questions I hear most often is "Why'd ya move up here?"

And why did you? LOL. Of course it use to be "why'd ya move DOWN here". Thats when most were moving from Ohio, Indiana and Michigan. Now its usually FL, CA and NY.
The place does seem to grown on most people. Kind of reminds me of Ray Bradbury's "dark they were and golden-eyed".

We moved here for business, from FL of course. I'll tell ya I don't miss the heat or the traffic. The ocean sometimes, but not the heat. We just had to go to Tampa for family reasons, and I am glad to be back.

Have you been to Celina? If not, I STRONGLY suggest that you visit the area. The people in Celina are nice and the area is very pretty. However, Celina is out in the boonies (no offense). You would have to drive to one of the neighboring towns for significant shopping or entertainment unless going to the lake is a major attraction for you. I am originally from Livingston, TN (about 40 minutes away). The only reason that I ever went to Celina was to play sports or go to the lake. Here is a link to the Clay County (Celina) chamber of commerce. http://www.dalehollowlake.org/ Good luck. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.
