We were lucky and bought our first home right before the prices went crazy. We could never afford to buy a home in Roseville now. The problem is that if everyone starts moving to TN or North Carolina or Idaho, Utah, etc. those places will start experiencing the same sort of problems that ruined our area. Since you said you lived in Sac all your life, then you remember it used to be a great city to live in. I've lived here for over 25 years, so I've seen the changes, too. And it happened when all the people starting escaping from the Bay Area, to look for cheaper homes and get away from violent crime, but they ended up destroying OUR city!

I'm from upstate NY, from a small town. I'd love to move back there, but I feel the change would be too great, and I'd regret it. But you are younger than I am, so I think you are making the right choice at the right time in your life. Good luck to you and your family, and don't forget Sactown!
Wow, how funny to be the world wide web and get a message from somone a half an hour away from where I live. I live in south sacramento. Fruitridge rd area. I am about five minutes from the house I grew up in. I do remember how much better thins were when I was younger. My issue now is that I want my kids to look back and think the same way and I dont see that happening here. They are already being impacted by the over crowding of classrooms and not to sound to harsh but also that fact that over half of their class only speaks spanish. I want to take them somewhere that the teachers will actuall have one on one time with my children. When we move next year I will have one going into 4th grade and one going into 1st. I have heard nothing but great things about the schools in Tullahoma. I will never forget Sacramento. It is my home. It will be hard to leave and go somewhere that nothing is familiar but I feel that for my family it is the best thing. I wish we would have been smart like you and bought a home when we first got married. We just cant afford it now. I am sure we will be in for a shock but I think that thinks will only improve for us. So have you ever considered moving out of California to any other states besides New York? I do know what you mean about a lot of people moving to TN like us. I did not realize until I found this website that so many people are doing just that. I dont want to contribute to eventally over populatin tn or bring anything bad to the state. We are hard working people and just want to live somewhere that people are frindly and my children can get a good education. Do you have any children? Thank you so much for posting a response. I get so excited to read a new message and you along with all of the others have been so nice. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to talk to me. Happy Holidays.

I hope your white. I have lived in Tennessee all my life and I brought my boyfriend from San diego here to live in Nashville with me and we have got nothing but stares and rude comments. He's puerto rican and I'm white people in the south do not approve of that. Tullahoma is close to the town where the KKK had been formed. Be mindfull people in Tennessee only take care of their own. As for us...he's going back to SD and I'm going with him. Nothing like the palm trees, burrito, and sunshine. Good luck! You will need it.

Here is some advice on moving from California. If you go there and show the California attitude you will not be accepted well by the natives. Remind yourself you moved there because you did not like the views of California. After all it did get to be the way it is because of how the people are what they believe in. You need to adopt the lifesytle of Tennessee not tell them how they need to adopt the California way because it is so much better. Keep socialism and liberalism in California. Those ideas and that state are falling apart so please don't go in and try to change some place to be like them because eventually you will have the same result in another place and it too will no longer be a nice family safe place to live.

I find this very difficult to believe. You wouldn't have issues in Knoxville so why would you have problems in Nashville? And someone from Puerto Rico is white.

Give me a break.

I'm sure this happened as there are absolutely no mixed-race couples here. None. In fact, they are turned away at the state line. There are also no "mixed" kids or people here either. None allowed. In fact, people here are so repelled by the concept of mixed couples that I'm surprised your post wasn't instantly deleted.
I'm glad you're moving back to San Diego. I'm sure such quick action saved your lives. You are so lucky you made it out alive.

Seriously, people stare and are rude for reasons other than race. Perhaps you two are the most stunningly beautiful couple that's ever existed...or perhaps the ugliest. And stupid people can also be the recipient of stares. Perhaps you were the ones being perceived as rude and prompted rude behavior. Having lived in California and Middle Tennessee and basing this on experience living amongst all kinds in both places, odds are you were rude first.

...and saying that you want to avoid Tullahoma because it's near the place where the KKK was started (something that occurred over 140 years ago, and if you had any interest in actually learning something, you'd know the efforts that town has gone to to "make-up" for that) is like me saying don't go to San Diego because a couple hundred years ago the people there helped wipe out the Indians and practiced what many people believed to be genocide....

Bless your heart.
