Default Maryville?

Hi, I took a drive to Maryville, oooohhhh about 5yrs ago maybe, and in talking to a librarian there, they were in the process of redoing their library, she showed me their blueprint, I haven't been back, but I was impressed with the plans, and I had already been there about 20yrs back to see the beautiful park in Maryville, and the cute little city. I am thinking of going back there to see the library but I was also wondering if the city itself has been revitalized also. It really had a downtown full of construction at my last visit. And some of the houses just didn't look like they were livable, not sure if this area was being revitalized or what was happening anyone know of the current status there? And if I should maybe take another look?

Thanks

I first drove through Maryville in July of '05. I thought it was a beautiful little city. We now live in Knoxville. I checked the Blount County website and sure enough, they have built a gorgeous library. They even serve espresso!

I agree, Maryville is a nice town with a lot to offer. It's growing like mad, but fortunately it's a manageable growth (no trailers in their schools, for example). Maryville is next door to the Knoxville airport but is also down the road from the Smoky Mountains. Like any suburb, it's got its run-down neighborhoods, but over all it's a great little town. It's also the world headquarters of Ruby Tuesday restaurants.

Default Maryville

I just returned from a four day stay in the Maryville area and although it is the Christmas season, I felt the layout of the town was too jammed with traffic and the price of the homes, compared to other parts of Tn, were not that great. Its beauty is that it is close to the Great Smoky Mountains which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Smile Maryville

My wife and I were back in eastern Tennessee in October 2006 and visited Maryville when they were having some type of fall festival in the old downtown part. We didn't get a chance to see all of Maryville and never found the mall someone mentioned. We are interested in relocating. What is mentioned by the tri-cities? What are they? Does Blount County have fire department service or do you pay extra for it? Also, what do you think of Clinton, Tennessee area for living?

If jmarkey doesn't look at this particular thread because it has a Maryville title, open a new thread with Clinton in the title. She lives there.

I really like Clinton.

Here's what you have:

Walgreen's, CVS, two smaller grocery stores for picking up a few things (Food Lion and Food City), Ford dealership, Toyota dealership, a good library, the usual fast food and a couple of restaurants, a spanky new Comfort Inn, Big Lots, Dollar Store, video store, doctors, vets - in short, everything you need for local errands. I head to Oak Ridge for Kroger and Wal-Mart. As I live just about on the town line, it only takes a few minutes. Knoxville is about 20 minutes - an easy drive and very pretty.

The *downtown* area has lots of antique stores and a few surprisingly good clothing, gift, and interior goodies shops. Park in the muncipal lot and walk around.

There are plenty of houses on the market, ranging from a single wide to Whirlwind Estate. Just about any price range. You can live on the river or in the hills. Rt. 61 is the main road from Norris to Oak Ridge and it takes you right along the river. 25W heads down to south Clinton and Powell. That area's kind of a rough edge until you head off the main road. There are some beautiful areas on the secondary roads with drool-worthy houses.

There's some new construction going on, but nothing crazy. You can live on a couple of acres in the woods or in a subdivision. Some of the subdivisions have wonderful views and they're pretty much out in the hills. Pretty country.

For wildlife, there's everything from chipmunks to our gorgeous female elk who pops up from time to time. I think she strayed off from the Anderson County release area. I can sit on my back porch and see deer, fox, woodchuck, and lots of bird visitors at the feeders.

I don't know anything about the schools, except that they have them.

The Clinch River runs through Clinton. There are weekly fishing tournaments in the summer. We're close to Norris Lake, which has a good marina and rents out pontoon boats for the day. Pack a lunch and spend the day on the water. It's a huge lake.

We have I-75 on one end of town and Oak Ridge on the other. Though we live in a quiet area, there's nothing isolated about it. The people here are incredibly nice. There's a wide range of incomes and house values, but the people with big dollars aren't snobby and the people without big dollars seemed to have retained all their teeth. Everyone seems pretty content with where they are and I feel we lucked into a good town.

I've seen deer before. Never an elk or fox. We are rural but I think we are too close to the highway (about a mile).
