New Holiday Inn Express is really nice. Fronts I-40 three miles back(from the Alpine) @ the 287 exit.Country Inn & Suites and Baymont Inn at the same exit are nice as well.
Most all the hotels in Cookeville are pretty nice BUT... Stay away from Winona Motel,Eastwood Inn,Knights Inn and maybe Country Hearth Inn.

The closest place is probably the Jordan motel just south of Jamestown and north of Grimsley. It is an older hotel that reminds me of the old motor lodges but some of my company have stayed there and noted how clean and quiet it was. It is almost across the street (hwy127) from the winery which btw is worth the stop.
I'm not sure what would be a faster trip to Wilder, the ride in from Crossville on 127 or the trip up from Cookeville via hangin limb hwy (164) In any event, if you stay in either Crossville or Cookeville and drive up the mountain, you will probably want to stop along the way and grab a bite to eat or some coffee in the morning.
Why not stay in the cabin and make it a camping trip?
