Other than the chlorine, the water at our home in Overton County is great. I'm in the Well and Water Conditioning business in Florida and I was really suprised of the quality when I tested it. Like I said the chlorine is very high but after removing it with carbon it's great. No need to buy bottled water.

My tap water tastes fine, especially run through a little Culligan filter and refrigerated. I get a report once a year, detailing the testing results.

There is a deep well in New Market, TN that sells gallons of water for 25 cents - the tiny building surrounding the well is plastered with newspaper articles about a dream the man had in about 1932, the drilling of the well, and how drinking the water cured him of a fatal disease. That is truly the best water I have ever tasted! [I did a search to see if there was an internet story about it - nope.]

The chlorine is definately higher than what I was used to in TX. But we filter all of our tap water in a stand alone water cooler. Also bought a shower filter because of reading up on chlorine's effects by showering in it. Turns out you can absorb it through your skin pretty easily and also it vaporizes at relatively low temps so a hot shower really vaporizes. My skin was all dried and itching like never before. Installed a $30 shower filter from Lowe's and in 2 days the itching is almost completely gone.

All you need to do is go up to one of the highland mountain streams of Upper East TN; get that water and filter it. Best water you will have.

But honestly, the tap water tastes fine to me.

I am not the sensitive type. I hardly complain about anything; eat absolutely anything but turnips!

But the Knox County water is so full of chlorine that my eyes water. I have never had that happen before. My skin has been VERY itchy. It never occured to me that this may be the culprit!

I have heard about the New Market water!

Have a Water Treatment Dealer install a Whole House Carbon filter on your home. It will remove the chlorine before it enters your home. You will be very happy with the results. No more tears when showering LOL. Better feeling skin, better tasting drinking water and more gentle on your clothes when washing. Trust me.

How much would that run? Would be nice to not always filter our drinking and cooking water, and also sounds good for clothing. I really was surprised how harsh showering in the water here was for me and my wife. The shower filter fixed it fast, but would love the whole house filtered.

That is the Holston water well Granny. When I lived in Jefferson County, we got it all the time! The kids got the biggest kick out of " going to the well for the water" hahahahha

Our water in Washington County is just fine, no special filters and I really don't taste the chlorine but once in a great while. We have city water.

I'm thinking you could have one installed up there for under $600. Possibly quite a bit under. What part of TN are you in? Stay away from the big Dealers. Culligan, Rain Soft, Eco, Kinetico. Ask for a 1cubic ft. In and Out Carbon Filter. (No backwash Valve on top) unit. Let me know how it goes. I'm curious as to how much this type of equipment goes for up there. You will love your new water.
