Default I think I've become a gypsy

I lived all my life in the same little area in SW FL. My move to TN was the first time I'd ever left where my family had been for 5 generations. I was the first in those 5 generations to even leave the island we grew up on. Moving was a huge thing to me.

But I've found that now that I've been here for 2 years, I have this massive moving bug! I'm forever looking at other towns, other states, and recently even other countries!! What in the world has gotten in to me?

Don't get me wrong. I don't want to sell my home. I'm totally in love with where I live. I've got awesome views of the sun coming up in the morning and it setting at night. I live in a very rural area with phenomenal neighbors. I watch wild turkeys, deer, all kinds of birds, etc in my yard all the time. This is just heaven to me. But I'm wanting to travel like crazy lately. Hubby's even threatened to block the Travel Channel!!

Anyone else getting a travel bug?

I have moved 14 times in the last 12 years.

since 1996, I have lived in 5 states and 3 countries, traveled to over 40 more countries and all 50 states. I have only lived in one single spot for over a year once, that was the same apartment in London where I stayed for 2 years.

Moving again in august.

So yes, my wife and I love being mobile, staying in one place sucks.

Wow............................... *looks at k350 in fear* Unpacking my bags. You scare me!!! 14 times!! You sound like my husband. He moved all over the place before me. When we started dating I told him I'd never leave my little island. Then it was over-run with tourists and way too much money. *sigh*

Maybe it's just cabin fever. Not really sure what's gotten into me lately. Maybe I'm just wanting to travel. I really don't want to move away from where I am. Must just be a wild hair or something.

So, where is your favorite place you've been? And what did you like so much?

Our total weight of items we own is only 1100lbs, all of it will fit in a longbed crewcab truck. everything either fits into rubbermaid containers or our assorted few boxes we always keep.

Our favorite place place living was probably an island we lived on in Greece. It was nice, very nice, I could get use to that and did, never tired from it, we are looking into purchasing a house there in the near future. The lifestyle there is so laid back and can do anything you want, no hassles from anyone or nothing, grab abeer, walk down the street, walk to the beach....nice, and next to nothing in crime! never locked my doors at my house or my car, never had one single hassle there from anyone (other than a certain nationality which will remain nameless).

Hi Mrs1885! Long time, girlie! You know I have the "moving" bug too! Like you I love Tennessee so much, and I have been here for 27 years. However, the rest of my family has moved away for various reasons, so I have fewer things keeping me in my city. And for years I've been dreaming of Maine (like you ). I think I now realize that it's just not in the cards for me, as I will never be able to afford dual residency in both TN and Maine. However, I discovered Cedar Key, Florida a few years ago and I believe that is much more doable than Eastport, ME. Cedar Key is absolutely lovely and laid back and the people really take care of one another in this small town. I like the idea that I can walk out my door and walk 5 miles or ride my bike 50 miles and it's safe (no traffic or "scary" parts of town). For one thing - it's only 8 hours from Chattanooga, so I could come "home" any time. It's every bit as expensive as Maine, but because it's not 22 hours from home, I don't really feel fully removed from the place I love so much. I happen upon fun places all the time, and wish that I had more money and time to see them. It's fun to dream. We'll have it all when we win the lottery.

k350, I envy you in a way. I love the idea of simplifying and living with few "things". I buy & sell my home every 9 months or so after renovating it (something that will change after I sell this current home in the slow market). Yet even with all of the moves, my boyfriend and I can still fill up a 24 foot van. My excuse is that I we have lots of tools . If I end up moving to Cedar Key, I'll probably be in a 600 sf house, so this will force me to part with some things.

I dont have a "moving" bug but i think I have always wanted to know "where that road ends up." That yellow line in the middle of the road has always fascinated me.

I have just the opposite problem. Moving terrifies me. I have no desire to go places, move to new places. I love the idea of knowing my surrounding, having my routine, knowing all of the trees personally and adding my touch of home to HOME by planting a tree and watching it grow for YEARS AND YEARS. I lived in a few different places when I was younger. I stayed in y home town until I was 18. We then moved to Jacksonville FL because my husband joined the Navy. We lived there 2 years and then to Virginia for about 6 months. I could not handle being away from home anymore and when he went out to sea, I came home and have been here ever since....that was 25 years ago.

But you know, I don't even like going to town or shopping at stores either. I guess I am a mega non mobile old woman!

If you get the urge to travel or move around a lot try rving. We've been living and traveling in our motorhome for the past 3 years. Now we are ready to settle down again. We will be building our new home in Trade, TN and we can't wait.
