Hi there,
I used to live in Maryville. It is a nice place to live and it seems like a lot of people also retire there.
I have lived a lot of places and when I moved to Maryville, big time culture shock; but once the locals start knowing and trusting you and stop all the fuss about you being a yankee, then you have made yourself some friends for life. I live in Texas now and still keep in touch with some folks back there. The area is growing and you and your wife should have no trouble at all getting jobs or a place to live.
Maryville is close to Knoxville, so whatever you cannot find to do in Maryville, Knoxville is around the corner. Beautiful hills, trees, etc.
Hope this has helped. Happy New Year.

Boy, is that the truth. Their concerns are not unfounded, either. I've recently come across some new transplants that can only be described as ugly Americans. Once the natives find out that you are not like that, they really are welcoming.

Thanks for the encouraging words about transplanting to Maryville.
I have just found this site today, and have spent the past 3 hours reading about many others with the same idea and plans as ourselves. My husband, myself and our two children plan to move to the Maryville/East Tennessee area within the next six months. I will be graduating from UNF (University of North Florida-Jacksonville) and will be able to teach at the elementary level. In an effort to make as many plans ahead as possible, I was wondering if someone may have information on medical care in the East Tennessee area. My son receives injections every day for a continuing condition called Pituitary Dwarfism. We are in need of a Pediatric Endocrinologist in the East Tennessee area. Does anyone have information on such doctors in that area?? Any information would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Teresa

I went to the East Tennessee Children's Hospital (in Knoxville) website:
http://www.etch.com/index.cfm
You can search the website by specialty. It turned up Pediatric Endocrinology (also in Knoxville) with 4 doctors:
http://www.etch.com/physicians3.cfm?practice=PE
Didn't see any pediatric endocrinologists in Maryville.
