Woot. There it is. What we predicted is coming true.

It's also interesting that I wrote these posts before I found my house. We ended up buying very close to our jobs, stores, services and the elementary school. Our area also has trash pick-up, including bulk and leaves. That's a savings on gas, too.

Good article. I used to know this guy who had almost a 2 hour commute to work. He was in a carpool so it meant 3 other people were living just as far away from their jobs as he was. They all decided to work a 4/10 schedule (4 days a week, 10 hours per day) so they only had to make the trip 4 days instead of 5. Of course, to stay in the carpool everyone had to do it and take the same 5th day off. He told me his alarm clock was set for 3:30A. He used to mainline coffee all day.

I get up at 3:30 a.m. That's only because I am neurotic.

Still, it will be nice to know that my job is about 10 minutes away.

Do you know what a lot of customers are telling me? They are now working out of their homes. Their companies have arranged for them to do it, and are paying for their broadband connections.

When I retired, they were starting to test it at my job. I wasn't too fond of the idea because I'm too undisciplined to work at home on a computer on a regular basis, I'd miss the socializing at work and because I don't like the idea of people having access to sensitive data in their homes but most of my co-workers were excited about it. My boss, not so much.

I think this is going to be more common place in the next few years for many companies. Sullivan County is looking at being closed on Fridays for their employees and give them all 4 10 hour shifts to help them save gas. Hasn't been approved yet, but they are looking at it. Many nurses and medical professionals already schedule this way.

I think this too will be even more popular with companies in the near future. It becomes cost effective for both employee and employer, also makes for happier employees! I am lucky enough to be the one to schedule my own office hours. I have been trying to make a point to not drive to the office 1 to 2 days a week lately to really save on the gas. If I don't have to be in the office, I don't go and take care of what I need to from home. Yes, I could not do it without the DSL though!

If these two methods do become as popular as I think they will over the next few years, think of how cool that will be when looking for a new job. The first question you have will be: Do I want to be able to work from home part of my work hours or only work 4 days a week? This will be great for parents! Either way they can work full time, not pay as much for child care and spend more time with their children.
