Thanks again everyone. I am just going to have to look at some more cars and make a decision. Your input has really helped.

Edmunds.com has a list of the ten most fuel efficient SUVs on the market right now, so this link may be helpful. It looks like you've got a few of these vehicles on your "to drive" list already.

Good luck!

I've got nothing but good to say about our 6 cyl, Escape, though it is not a 4 wheel drive. We owned it new since 2003, and it has been a fabulous car. We have loaded it up on several family vacaion and there is never any loss in power, and it has very quick accelleration when you need it.

We downsized on from an Explorer since we didn't feel the need to have a larger SUV, and then we had a 2" receiver hitch installed aftermarket so that we would have the abilty to throw on a bike rack or storage platform.

Good luck and let us know what you end up getting!

Just wanted to update this thread. Thanks to everyone who gave me info. I have done a lot of research and ended up buying the Ford Escape. I was not able to get a 4 wheel drive which I was a little upset about, but it would have raised the price much higher then I wanted to pay. I did get pretty much everything else I wanted on it and so far I love it. I do miss my Ford F150 crew cab but I figured with gas prices, I really needed to downsize. When I finally do decide to move up to Tn, I can always just buy an older pick-up for the dirty jobs.
