No racial issues. It's very family oriented...very small town feel. A nice community. Unless you are used to living in a major city and love city life then you will love it here. I specifically moved to this area so my children could grow up with a good quality life. This is horse country...lots of horses, cows, farmland...just a wonderful area.

The housing is extremely affordable. The cost of living is low. Hope this gives you a good idea.
wow there is actually someone besides me who has internet access in petersburg!

I moved to Fayetteville about a year ago and I work in home care in Petersburg (private duty) and I love it here....everyone has been so welcoming and friendly! I can not imagine Cahoots not serving someone unless they were rude..I have eaten there several times and enjoyed it...although I like Trotters better ...good buffet and very friendly people there! I haven't been out and about much to make a lot of friends due to my work schedule, but as I said people are very nice here and the rents are great...the apartments are very cheap, but I rent a 2 bedroom house for $425 a month...unheardof in a big city like Nashville, where I came from

Cattlemans for fine dining, Tammies Outback for bar and grill, and Marvin's on the bypass for buffet lunch. That's the ticket!

Fayetteville is a shocker- coming from San Fran woosh your 50 years behind everyone else- luckily the people are wonderful it makes up for Walmart being the only grocery store- and not anywhere to shop its Huntsville or nashville- no resturant choices either- wait theres Shoneys and Sonic- Schools are above average- Property Tax and utilities are a steal. You will find yourself crying for the first year unless you go to a nice church make friends and I dont know what Indiana is like but you have to like horses and country living. On the plus side+ why I moved from San Fran- The quaintness is unparalell to any country town- the people are the best- we are one of the safest communities- so I go travel and come home- I have a 22 month old daughter and I use the child development center for mothers day out- everything I do is in Huntsville or Nashville area which is only a 45 min drive- then I come home and watch the beauty of the wildlife and take a big breath and its all okay---

I agree with all of you, great and difficult things. No they dont take to outsiders if you insult them. No they dont have fine dining if that is what your used too- and yes you have to drive anywhere to shop or fly out to New York, Atlanta etc,, Yes its cheap here if you are from somewhere else- yes they turkey and deer hunt. Its beautiful. Lincoln county could be the next Frankliln if the elderman would realize they are missing tons of dollars because we take our money out of the county. Cattlemans is not fine dining its better than shoneys thats it. If go to Nashville even its hard to find new york or san fran culinary foods, ship it in, or cook it yourself. I would love to start a newcomers club and cook at my house in my commercial kitchen I had hubby put in- there are wine drinkers here- I am in California right now missing Fayetteville-- but it offers peace and quiet- and I miss my friends- you have to admite that Fayetteville as great people from all over the world. If we banded together and changed the community just a little it would work. A lot of people make the mistake of opening businesses , Fayetteville needs nice resturants, better stores, make some cultural days and why is junior college so expensive when its only 28 a unit here in California? What will keep the kids in the communities when they grow up? Did I mention never use the hospital there but the DRS are awesome would someone give them a state of the art hospital instead of all of us going to Huntsville
The one main problem with TN is that you cant ship wine. I have a love hate relationship at times with the community, do I think I could make a difference? No. Do I take my money out of the county, yes. Do most people. yes. I try and use local people for services- but thats it. Do most people feel the same way? Yes. Can we truly make a change? Anyone want to have a new comers club?

If you turn Fayetteville into Huntsville or SanFran i.e. more restaurants,(chains), shopping centers, malls, etc. what would be the point? You might as well live in Huntsville. Fayetteville is great because its not like those places. Besides, if you live in Huntsville or San Fran, you are probably 30 minutes or more from all the best places to eat and shop anyway.

I dont want to turn Fayetteville into a major city, Franklin didnt do that- we are missing city dollars-
Shoneys sucks, the parks and recreation center is incredible but no one uses that, there is a pool and tennis courts, never used. Granted Elk Valley coffee is great props there for that- cahoots cute but lousy menu, O'Holihans is quaint too- but we need to draw the money there- Host of Christmas past could be better, the lincoln county fair- what fair-someone needs to open a brewery maybe- the patrick wellness center is blah not vibrant- no childcare available- Community Programs what cocmmunity programs- no adult ed classes there are simple changes that create revenue for its members and not take away from the small town feel I love the lincoln theater even though is not surround sound and no latte bar- so I can deal with some trade offs but in general the bar has to be risen a little- we need community dollars for the future generation. There is no track for the kids to walk on for excersize- what about our community having a real farmers market? There are small steps,, it is true if it were a big city I would not want to there but we must keep dollars in our community- not everyone appreciates a slawburger

TN Mockingbird is on a distinguished road
Oh, dear, SmartyPants, did no one tell you about our Farmers' Market on South Lincoln Ave.? Did you ask? And the Lincoln County Fair is one of a few Fairs in the US that offer harness racing. Or did you mean the Midway/Carnival?
Yes, we go to the Lincoln Theater to watch movies; we go to the Elk River Coffee to slurp lattes. True, the Lincoln doesn't have surround sound, but somehow we are able to hear the dialog very well. And we do have a track for the kids to walk on for exercise, but we call them sidewalks. Adult Ed classes are available through Motlow College.
Yes, the Host of Christmas Past has become stale since it started 16 years ago, and the crowds have fallen off. We need innovation and re-energizing; do you want to volunteer to serve on the Committee for 2009?

Obviously you haven't eaten at The Restaurant at Kelso, which is decidedly upscale from the other eating establishments you cited.

We also have to accept that Fayetteville is a small, Southern town with limited resources. And there is nothing wrong with that. But I agree we need to keep the revenue inside the county and city which means offering more features and perhaps increasing our resources.

SmartyPants has been Kelso- Did I mention I have a commerical kitchen in my house- that is good food there sorry- beg to differ-Have you ever been to a real farmers market not the we have tomatoes an thats about it there- come on- Harness racing I was there once- the midway and exhibits were really pathetic when you have such great talents we are missing out on- I am fully aware that this year the fair went down- the attendence to host of christmas past we went once too- needs to be later in december not t shirt weather-I love the lincoln theater dont misnomer me there- kids dont need sidewalks they need education on nutrition and a park- we have a skateboard park I know- classes at motlow lets see how affordable are they again? And they offer what activities I went to there cultural days- I am not looking to compare
Fayetteville to any other city I choose to live there on purpose, I love it but everyone who moves there from out of state or starts a business usually Leaves eventually- I am not looking for a mall, and I could cook 100 times better than canoe club of kelso although she is wonderful person and I agree its quaint- I too love to drink my Prichards Rum-
but were missing simple dollars on simple things. Community- needs that community when we dont shop local, use local goods or services we loose money in our great town- simply put- where else can you get a drivers license and a bucks pizza at the same time? GOT TO LOVE THAT- no DMV lines- or post office lines. YES I LOVE fayetteville I moved on purpose but would enjoy spending more of my money there thats it-- simple- I would love to be on the host of christmas past board 2009 but why cant they change the date, and have some contests, what church has best nativy scenes, bakers vers. bakers- caroling teams- night activities, brought in snow play ground- IN DECEMBER Perhaps-- hot cocoa is better in the evening air then in t shirt weather in november. Lincoln county needs a bigger better tree on the square-- We are a great proud community
