Can anyone help with information regarding Fayetteville. We will be moving from Indiana and have two young children so schools are very important. We are very family oriented. My husband will be working Huntsville, AL and we were told Fayetteville would be a good option. Any info would be appreciated utilities, property tax, sales tax, etc. Thanks.

but eventually found our home in Cookeville. Fayetteville had some wonderful people and, as you mention, Huntsville isn't that far away for heavy-duty shopping. Shopping is somewhat limited in Fayetteville: the arrival of WalMart in a town of that sized forced the other grocery stores out so selection is limited. Nevertheless, there is a decent selection of stores for the goods and services that you need.
We found a nice selection of well-priced homes so finiding a place to live shouldn't be difficult. We are an older couple so I didn't investigate and can't comment on the schools. Good luck in your move! |

Fayetteville Is Great If You Want To Relax Not Far From Huntsville And Take Advantage Of Lower Cost

We lived in Kelso which is about 9 miles from Fayetteville. I did not like the area because it was very flat, no TN hills. Very limited shopping, we had to go at least 35 miles for a Lowe's. We left there and moved closer to Cookeville. More things to do and more shopping.
Fayetteville has a nice park for the kids called Kids Park and the Patrick wellness center has a pool and all types of classes. That part was nice. |

We Live In Fayetteville And Enjoy It Very Much. I Don't Mind Going To Huntsville Or Even Cool Springs To Shop If I Need To. Most Things Of A Daily Need Are Here In Town, Groceries, Walmart, Pharmacies, Etc. A Little Short Supply On Restaurants, But The Ones There Are Do Well. Utilities Are Average, Sales Tax About 9% I Think. Property Tax Is Low And Things Like Car Registration Are Quite Low Compared To Al. No State Income Tax Is A Plus. As For Schools, Our Children Are Grown And Living Other Places, But From What I Hear Schools Are Fine And Free Of The Big City Troubles. Its About 27 Miles From Downtown To Huntsville, No Farther Than You Might Commute If You Actually Lived In One Of The Huntsville Suburbs.

I moved to Petersburg (near Fayetteville) from Nashville in August and I absolutely LOVE it here. It's out in the country. Lots of horses...farms...rolling mountains...it's beautiful. Not too far from two big cities (Huntsville on one side and Nashville on the other) with plenty of shopping. The schools are wonderful. They are not over-crowded...everybody speaks English. No racial issues. It's very family oriented...very small town feel. A nice community. Unless you are used to living in a major city and love city life then you will love it here. I specifically moved to this area so my children could grow up with a good quality life. This is horse country...lots of horses, cows, farmland...just a wonderful area.
The housing is extremely affordable. The cost of living is low. Hope this gives you a good idea. |

Cost of living is definitely cheaper...but at what cost? Huntsville is 40 miles away and the only way down is 231-431, a 4 lane heavily traveled rural highway that is somewhat treacherous. Fayetteville is an 'insular' closed society and they don't take kindly to strangers - especially YANKEES! Fine dining is Shoney's or a local dump named Cahoots that refuses to serve those dreaded Yankees - they know who you are when you try to order. If you like calamari, sushi, salt bagels, lox, cold sesame noodles, General Tso's chicken, lobster, or 'fine' dining in general, you're out of luck. Conversely, if you're into fried okra and mediocre BBQ, you'll find it. Finally, dress appropriately if you wish to blend in - even the women wear camo here !!!

why in the world would you move to fayetteville tn. from the great " NEW YORK CITY" ???? most people move here to enjoy LIFE, not general tso's chicken.

Total nonsense. The people in Fayetteville and Lincoln County are wonderful. There are people from all over the world who live in Lincoln County and work in Huntsville, and that makes it a very welcoming, very enjoyable place to live. A minimal commute to Huntsville, and much, much better than living in the rat race of Madison county.
