Default Looking for firefighter employment

My wife and I are looking to move to Tennessee within the next year. I am currently a firefighter/paramedic in Florida and have found that both certs will tranfer to TN with paperwork, sweat, and fees. Was wondering if anyone knew if any departments were hiring or testing in the future. Also, what kind of retirement do some of the departments have, i.e. state retirement, city retirement, departemtn controlled, etc and the benefits of each. Any help you ccan give will be appreciated. Thanks

Especially if you have decided on a specific area or TN you could look up their government page for the human resources information. Not all of the counties or cities list it, but several of them do. Though some smaller towns (like the one I am in) only have volunteer fire departments.

This might help.

Rural/Metro of Tennessee

They contract with Knox, Loudon, and Blount counties in this area.

Dear Firepower,

My husband is currently in Iraq. He is a captain for one of the fire departments south of bagdad. He has a bachelor's degree in Fire Science and a Master's degree in Emergency Management. He was on the Fire Department here in Ohio for 10 years prior to leaving for Iraq. He will be concluding his contract there and we want to move to Tennesee. (BEAUTIFUL STATE). He has done everything possible to secure employment. Initially, it was more local - then the search expanded to the contenental U.S. Our desire is Tennesse however. Could you please assist in anyway to help him locate and secure employment that may fit his qualifications. He simply wants to fight fire. It is his love and passion. I am writing this not only to help my husband come home, but for me and my children to be reunited with their father. Thank-you for any help that you or anyone else can give us.

monk3117 - that's the hub.
