Default ReLo From NJ

I just spent three weeks on business from EastCentral Tennessee (South of Nashville) to the WestCentral... very nice people... beautiful land... come in with a friendly understanding that this is real heartland-America and you will do well.

Like a lot of the U.S., people are trying to figure out what is happening to their lives and the country. Do a lot of listening.

I have a good friend that relocated to TN 6 months ago.She loves it.Her dh commutes to Nashville from Spring Hill.Williamson County is the best as far as school districts go in the Nashville area.Other good towns are Franklin and Brentwood. The schools are all brand new and there is plenty of shopping. She loves the weather and says people couldn't be friendlier. There are so many transfers there from the northeast and California that many people in her area don't have southern accents! She grew up in the northeast and already has said she'll never come back here to live. Her kids are doing well in the school system also.Good luck!

Let me help reassure you. I would rather be in your shoes and coming to tennessee as to be here in Tn going to NJ. Tennessee has some beautiful towns in that location. If you go north of lawrenceburg towards nashville you'll get into the suburbs of nashville. You can find beautiful homes and an area that you will like. trust me. Kerry

Default Tennessee is a beautiful state

This is a small area, Lewisburg, but with very nice people, good quality of life. The cost of living is low. If you're pretty well off I'd suggest finding a home in Williamson County which is just north. You'll find very nice homes in the $150-250K range out in the country and the best schools in Tennessee. The further south you go the cheaper it gets. If you're used to a fast-paced lifestyle this is not the area you will like...these are "country folk". Good, good people who work hard, God-fearing and live a good life. Come down here with a "Yankee attitude" you're not going to fit in very well. You'll hate it. If you want a place for your children to grow without fearing for their life or becoming a criminal you'll love it. It will take a while to adjust probably. I've lived in Washington, DC/Baltimore, MD and quite frankly I wouldn't trade the "good life" for the fast-pace of that area if you paid me a million dollars.

You will live within an hour of Nashville (great night life and sight-seeing there with NFL and all kinds of music scenes) and you're an hour from Huntsville (Space Station camp...can't beat that) so all in all you should find exploring the area a lot of fun!!

Bev

I'm from Williamson and it is by far the nicest area in TN. It's not far from the city which is a nice plus. I have a daughter who commutes to Belmont.

I don't recommend the move for you. It's not because of Lawrenceburg, but because I've lived all over the country and find that there are all types everywhere. I've also found that people see what they want. You're overwhelmed with your fear, and will probably see what you need to see to validate your fear. I was watching "Trading Spouses" and this woman from Michigan was traded with a woman from Tennessee. The Mich. woman was crying on the way there, and was SO SURE that her new family would be stupid, and wrong about everything. She was determined to show them how right she was and how wrong they were. She was miserable trying so hard to make them be like her, and made everyone else avoid her. Her family in Michigan was, in the meantime, having more fun than ever with their "new mom" who went in with an open mind and was not at all interested in controlling them like their real mom. Her own family didn't even hug her when she returned; they were so disappointed after having had the Tennessee mom. Certainly every Tn. mom and every Mich. mom are not the same as those two, but I thought it was a great example of how people's prejudice (demographic or otherwise) is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Try Columbia or Spring Hill..they're both fast-growing areas with plenty of nice new home communities and good schools.

Don't take this the wrong way but if you have a thick NJ accent, you might want to lose it...fast. This is still the south and a NJ or NY accent may not be welcomed with open arms.

Having moved from Florida I'm "accent free" with no specific dialect but I still get "You ain't frum 'round here, are ya'?". Once I tell people I'm from Florida they seem okay with that but there is still some north v.south mentality around here.

Joe
