Lisa, I stumbled across your posts yesterday. Wow! You are living a dream for many of us. It's wonderful that you're sharing it with us all. Thank you for that.
One question. And I apologize if you've already answered, but being that your bedrooms are in the back of the house, will you have a secondary means of egress out of the bedrooms? If I'm not mistaken, I thought it was an NFPA requirement to have a secondary way out of a bedroom, in single dwelling units, in the event of a fire (unless the house has a sprinkler system). That secondary way out may be a window (as long as it meets the size requirements) -- or perhaps a door to another room (not sure). But I imagine you've done extensive research on the building codes in TN.
Beautiful property by they way.

I don't think Tennessee has that many restrictions.
I guess I'm not the only one that hates the furniture they are selling now. I need a dining set and hutch. Something simple. And perhaps front room furniture.
I have looked everywhere. Yuck!

I believe Lisa mentioned their location is not subject to building codes since they are county and off grid... sounds wonderful for an owner-builder

J- Happy early Birthday to you also .
Kat- The flooring looks "great". You'll see it on Monday .
inthewoods- Thank you for the post and you are welcome. We don't have any building codes in my county. We do plan on having an escape route from the bedroom, through the ceiling tile, and out the back. Hopefully we'll never have to use it but we will be prepared.
mountaingirl75- I'm glad you found our post. Good luck to you!
hiknapster- Good luck on your furniture hunt. How long have you been looking? Never mind- don't tell me it might discourage me . Mike's daughter, Nicole, loves to shop for furniture. I think she's nuts .
Ultrarunner- You are right. Thanks.

I've looked online and in stores for 3 months.
Yuck.
Why is everything big and brown?
I hate brown.
I'm trying to go with a light olive green. Perhaps beige accents. Those pretty burnt orange lights that look very modern.
Brown? Bleah.

My living area isn't large scale, and I got a lovely sofa that isn't too large scale made by La z boy. It is a creamy yellow with a cabbage rose print. What I really wanted was an antique wicker sofa, but couldn't find one when I needed the furniture.
What about old/antique furniture? Especially for the wooden items, I don't think I'd be comfortable buying used upholstered furniture. My coffee table is from the 30's, and I have a victorian plant stand for side table. I have a terrific hoosier for a hutch and sideboard, and metal-topped farm table, along with assorted old chairs.

Lisa and Hik, have you tried "Furniture in the Raw"? You get unfinished furniture in the item/shape/size you want then finish/paint it yourself. A bit cheaper too. There are several company's that offer just this type of furniture.
Just a thought.
