My neighbor told me that there is an actual serpent handling church in Morristown, TN. Does anyone know if this is true? Not that I want to go, just curious.

I don't think they're all that rare...there was one near my friend's house in knoxville as well.
I don't understand the concept, but they're around. |

I sure wouldn't want to live near one. Things happen, and you wouldn't want to be around when all of the snakes get loose.

I don't even know...do they actually use venomous snakes? And...what's the point of the snake thing?
I remember in the Bible the snake from adam and eve, and some old fella's staff turned into a snake at some point (hello, keep it clean here!). But in terms of practical applications I can't see snakes as useful at church, only a distraction... |

![]() Karen, thanks for the cute post! I loved having a laugh, hello! ![]() Some people around here take their snake handling very seriously. The rest of us take not handling snakes just as serious! |

Well there is that pesky directive, take up thy serpent, or something. I don't exactly know of any right off (could ask around if you want, williboy
) but I'm sure they're in just about all the counties up here. Greene, Hancock, Hamblen, Cocke, Unicoi and Johnson especially. |

Mark 16:17,18 is the verse from the Bible on which these churches are based.
Mark 16:17 "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues". Mark 16:18 " They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover". |
