Im in mid tn, my boys used to catch them all the time. I got so tired of finding scorpions in jars, I told them if I found another one Id make them eat it. They found them in wood piles around my parents house and around rotten logs.

Hi there - I was VERY surprised to find 2 scorpions while camping this weekend in the Ocoee area (down by Chattanooga). It's probably too far away for you to go, but since they are so rare and hard to find, I figure they must be pretty abundant where we were to just stumble upon 2 of them in as many days. They were the Eastern Stripeless variety.
We were camped in a campground owned by Quest Expeditions, a whitewater outfitter - I would guess that if you brought a blacklight to that campground and looked at night, you'd definitely find a scorpion or two. And while you're at it you can go on a really fun rafting trip - they have a couple cabins adjacent to the campground that you can rent, if you're not into sleeping on the ground amongst scorpions. None of us was stung or bothered by them, by the way!
Good luck : ) -kh

Hi we live in Rockwood Tennessee which is between Chattanooga and Knoxville and have found 3 scorpions in our house. My husband stepped on one in the middle of the night 2 nights ago ang said it was worse than a wasp sting. We have also found several outside just by turning over rocks and things. We are going to try the blacklight thing just to see how many we can actually find since we have already seen so many here. I have read that if you see one to consider yourself lucky but I don't feel so lucky having babies in the house and also scorpions.

You guys are correct, there are 2 species from 2 different genii in TN, Vaejovis carolinianus and Centruroides vittatus. The V. carolinianus is dark, and very small as adults, only about 1/2" long, and dark colored. C. vittatus can get a lot bigger, up to 3" in some cases, especially with the males' long "tail". The C. vittatus sting is far more painful than V. carolinianus, so be careful.

We used our black light outside tonight and I don't think I will get much sleep tonight. Within 5 minutes we found 2 scorpions. The 1st one was pretty small, maybe 3/4 of an inch and my husband injured it getting it into the jar. The second was much larger and the one that will give me nightmares. It is carrying at least 50 babies on it's back and is the creepiest thing ever. I have taken quite a few pictures of it and will post them if I can figure out how. If anyone wants this thing you are welcome to it. LOL. It will be dead soon along with it's babies if not. It is in a snoopy baby bottle (thats all I could find that was clear with a lid) and i will be going to Co-Op to get the strongest pest killer to spray my yard by the weekend. I hate these things. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have young children but I have an 18 month old and a 3 yr old and I don't want them getting stung by these all over my yard and under their toys in the yard. Anyway have a good night.

DONT FRICKIN KILL IT, thats rude and thoughtless. That is a Vaejovis carolinianus, theyre COMPLETELY HARMLESS!!!!! If you kill it, you just let an untold number of disease-spreading cockroaches (which TN is also plagued with) go unchecked. Think about that for a minute! Take it into the woods and let it go, those creatures have every right to live as you do. They wont harm your baby, they wont harm you, and theyre absolutely beneficial to have around. Whats next? Are you going to kill every bee you see? They can certainly do more harm to your baby than that little scorpion can.
I just cant believe how people feel the need to kill everything in sight just because people "dont like them". Education before eradication, people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im sorry, but youre in THEIR territory, they were there thousands of years before you were. If you dont want scorpions around, then MOVE somewhere where scorpions dont inhabit, simple as that. And spraying your yard wont do a dang thing, just letting you know now.

Well they may have been here thousands of years before me but you try getting up in the middle of the night and stepping on one in your bedroom floor. See how benificial you think they are then. If they were not getting in my house, I would have no reason to want them dead. Moving is not exactly an option either. Thanks for the advice though. If I had cockroaches, I would for sure kill them too. Thankfully I don't but the scorpins are bad enough.

They are beneficial, regardless if you step on them or not. Theyre out killing cockroaches at night, basically natures own pesticide. I wouldnt kill them, take them out deep into the woods and let her and her babies go. Theyre harmless, and although they might be a pest to you, they certainly will kill far more REAL pests (ie cockroaches, etc).

Heck, I can find dozens of scorpions in a matter of an hour just around the house. Tennessee is full of scorpions if you have any rocks around.
Here is one just from the other day. I have been stung once or twice and I would say it is much like a bee sting, maybe not even that bad.
