Default I need all opinions of Unicoi county

My husband and I are going to move to tn and are thinking of uncoi co. Employment is not our concern but school system is. We keep to ourselves and are looking for the same in a community. How is the property value? We are also planning to visit the area in the next month or two and would like opinions on whereto go etc. I would love to hear anything good or bad!

I have been up to Erwin once, and it was an absolutely beautiful area. It is rather secluded, though. Their schools rate better than the state average on many indicators, and I know that the scenery is excellent.

Land prices seem to be a bit high (10-20k per acre), but houses in town with just a city lot are in the reasonable upper 100k range.

Not sure about the job market in the area. If you are not stuck on Unicoi specifically, there are many places all over east TN that might meet your criteria. The Tennessee DOE keeps yearly reports on schools in each system (They call them Report Cards) if you need to know that information.

When you come, make sure you eat at the "Elms" mom-and-pop restaurant there in Erwin. One of my friends there is a guidance counselor at Unicoi County HS in Erwin. If you want to stop and visit, his name is Michael, and I'm sure he's the only counselor there named Michael, as the others are women.

My husband and I bought a house with some property in Unicoi last November and we just love the area and all it has to offer. We are employed and full time FL residents but escape to TN every chance we get.

Unicoi is a lovely little town and Erwin is great too. Lots of nice people, places and things to do. Check out Hampton Realty in Erwin (right on Main Street downtown) and ask for Ernie - he'll take good care of you. There are alot of "bargains" to be had if you take the time to look.

Give it a chance - I think you'll love it!!
