But that's not exactly the point of this thread, either. It's about adjusting to a completely different lifestyle that you may love or hate. |

Where in WA State are you from? To tell the truth, the only thing I really miss is the Chinese Food. I have found my little peace in East TN and will NEVER move back to the Seattle area.

I grew up in this area, and left when I was 18. Its a great small community to raise kids and the cost of Living is very affordable. But you should be prepared for culture shock, everyone knows everybody and everything about their family and personal life. My parents grew up here and I had their teachers. People will be friendly and nice but you better act/think/be the same person they are or you will not fit in. People in this area are very stuck in their ways, its a backward place. I would suggest moving here if you want a break from a metro area but know people have a different attitiude.

I can not believe the amount of people who write complaints on this forum about Tennessee. We have been there 2 times and are currently house shopping(check out my Dandridge or Newport thread). I can not imagine a more beautiful place on earth, if indeed it is on earth, feels unreal like being in heaven. We can not wait til we move there. Do wish however there was more information to be found about different towns and areas on the internet, maybe I am going to some wrong web sites? But please please, look around take a big breath maybe a drive to Clingmans dome, or through Cades cove, THEN TRY TO COMPLAIN! Seems absolutely unbelievable that anyone has a complaint about Tennessee at all.

I just saw on another thread someone that doesn't live here yet, telling someone else that they will just LOVE East Tennessee. Please, oh please, don't tell me this is going to become the "new" Florida forum, where people that don't even live here, start telling the actual residents how to feel. |

I don't get that anyone was trying to tell someone from Tennessee how to feel about anything. I am not moving there from Florida either, heard so much about Florida here. All I am trying to say is, that it truly is the most beautiful place on earth in my opinion. We will be moving there from Minnesota, and have been to Tennessee 2 times, and have checked out anything we can find online as far as information about specific towns or areas. Each time we were there we drove all over the place and we did observe many people with plates from there that drive fast, never look at the beauty around them and it is a shame. Not saying everyone, just what we saw at the time.We are looking forward to the slower paced life style and the beauty.I posted to begin with fro anvice on Dandridge or Newport, there is not much online about these areas, and can't find any pics of the scenery in these areas as well. I am sorry if anything I said bothered you, was siply my point of view, just as everyone has theres.

I know that you are from Minnesota. That's not what I said. I just don't want to this forum to turn into the Florida forum, where people that have never lived there go on and on about how great the state is, and get highly indignant when someone has a negative opinion.
As far as people that have lived here all their lives and not stopping to look at the beauty, well, they've lived here all their lives. The have to be at work and such. It's their business. I'm a little worried about someone that hasn't moved here yet, but already criticizing the locals. |

![]() I like your point of view. I have been living in N.E.TN for over 10 years now, I NEVER get tired of seeing all those mountains and the beautiful change of seasons here. It is very hard to stay angry or upset about anything here. The mountains give me peace and perspective. Every spring I try to go for a hike in the mountains, it revives me. It is a slower pace of life and I for one Love it! Sounds like you will too. ![]() As for Dandridge and Newport well, I haven't spent to much time in the past few years there, but I defiantly prefer Dandridge to Newport. When I first moved to TN I moved to Jefferson County and we really didn't care for it, but you might love it. A while back I posted some pictures of that area, there are just a few but the first two are of Douglas lake and the rest are west of Newport on the way to Gatlinburg. Here is the link. Cosby TN pictures! |
