I am afraid of ostriches.
I was thrilled to see that someone with financial resources bought Hidden Hollow! I have so many fond memories of going to that beautiful park as a child: the petting zoo, the water mill, the swimming hole, the rope swing. I hope it will become the showplace that it used to be.

And yes, the CBJ is a wonderful publication that provides some interesting scoops on the growing business community in the Cookeville area. I'm anxious to find out what the future holds for the mall now that the Stites brothers have bought it.

Default Great town

Great shots! My good friends moved from Phoenix, AZ to Cookeville to make a change in their quality of life and have never looked back. They absolutely love it. THe college gives a young fresh vibe, and the area is so pretty around Cookeville. Also, they said there are so many great places to visit within an easy distance to Cookeville, even popping down to Atlanta, etc. You captured what they had expressed, beyond there being no people in the shots! HA!

I'm so tickled that your friends like Cookeville so much! It really is a great town. I see that you're in Belgium. I have a friend from Belgium (Arlon) who just returned from spending a semester studying in Cookeville and had a great time.

TRUE14, the terrain around Cookeville is flat to rolling hills. It's on the Cumberland Plateau, so in theory it's flatter than most of the rest of Tennessee. However, there are gently rolling hills all around, and within 5 miles or so of town there are also some deep gorges and hollows ("hollers") as well as larger hills with broad valleys.

We went to HH when they had "open house" of sort. There's still fishing to do. The rope swing & swimming hole are still the same. The water mill, which had been torn up for a long time, is now working and looks great. The petting zoo now is almost non existant, when they decided to sell the place, they were not allowed to "sell" the animal, so most of them went to other respite/zoo places. There are still "lots" of ducks, but I didn't see the peacock anywhere, I think it's gone as well as the rabbitts, pigs, deer and goats. The new owner has said that he plans to turn it into mostly a wedding/ honeymoon place with cottages and stuff like that. We'll see. It's still a great place to fish, swim and have a great picnic, play some volleyball and play on the playground.

I actually think Cookeville is a pretty good place to live. If I was going to stay in TN, it would be the place I would settle in.

Where in TN do you live right now? I agree that Cookeville is a great place, easily my favorite place in Tennessee, but I'm curious what it is about Cookeville that makes it appealing to you, too.

Hi Dan,

If you will go back into this same thread and look for a posting from JMT on 4/14/07 at 8:32 am, you will find information about schools in the Cookeville area. JMT has also indicated in other threads, that there are jobs to be had in Cookeville.
