I am originally from NY and yearn for the four seasons again and a white Christmas (that doesn't mean white sand)lol. I also have a dilemma, is anyone familiar with getting a letter of intent to hire from the place of employ you plan on working at for an FHA loan? We are stuck between a rock and a hard place. There is a position available at a facility I could transfer to, however, without a place to live I can't accept the position. To top it off I had to have unexpected surgery 3 wks ago and am just returning from medical leave. This has been a life long dream to live in TN. The opportunity is there but don't know what path to take. Does anyone have experience in this type of thing? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Any pics of Silver Point would be great also. Thanks and GOD bless.

Silver Point isn't an actual town, it's just a community with a few churches, a couple of gas stations, a restaurant, and a post office. It's probably best known as being the gateway to Center Hill Lake, it's right at the I-40 exit to get to the lake.
I can't find many pics of Silver Point, but here's what I could find (taken from Google Images):
As far as getting a letter of intent from your future employer, that shouldn't be a problem. Employers do it all the time as people move and change jobs. When I moved to Knoxville I just asked my new employer to write a letter of intent for my mortgage lender, and they had it to me the next day.
Good luck!

Thanks for the pictures
Thanks for the pictures. I was in Cookeville yesturday and did not see any of this. We are looking to move to TN and Cookville was one of the towns we were interested in but did not like the are we were and thought what we seen was the town. I think we exited 40 and we told to drive down 8 lights and we would in Cookeville. Is Cookeville bigger or smaller than Crossville?

What exit did you take? Cookeville has 4 exits on I-40: 286, 287, 288, and 290. Cookeville is more than twice the size of Crossville.

Silver Point is a spot in the road between Center Hill Lake and Baxter TN. It has a service staion and I think a restaurant and church, maybe a small grocery. Mostly there are fields round about. Cookeville is a fairly easy drive from there, depending on gas prices. It is snowing right now, whether it will stick or not. There is not a lot of snow. We have lived in the area of White, Putnam, and Jackson Counties 8 years and have had a couple of white Christmases. Usually the snow is pin prick size and hard and accumulates very slowly. Weather fluctuations usually prevent much accumulation. Every once in a while though, real flakes come down and there is more accumulation... very pretty!

My Mom was born in Baxter, although, her birth certificate says Nashville.
A lot of my relatives lived in Baxter and Silver Point. My Uncle Bethel lived to be a hundred. I haven't been back there in a long time, but as I kid I loved it.
My Mom's half sister, Floy and her husband owned a store, and one time they gave us three girls huge dolls out of their store. I can't remember if the store was in Baxter or Silver Point, just somewhere in the area.

My husband and I are still trying to sell our Florida home and move to TN. Could anyone give me some input of Cookeville? What is the atmosphere? We are looking for a down home feel. We have met so many friendly people from TN. And their friendliness is sincere, not a put on. I would be transferring. Is the medical field good in this area? I wouldn't mind having to travel for 30 minutes or so. As long as I can live in the country, sit on my porch and watch nature and life go by. We are tired of the population and hustle and bustle of Florida life. Calgon take us away to TN.

Cookeville Regional Medical Center is the medical facility for Putnam County as well as being the referral center for several surrounding counties. Having used its services several times I have been impressed by the look of the updated and/or new physical plant as well as its cleanliness, availability of services, its seamless and efficient delivery of care, etc.
It has been on an aggressive expansion program for the past several years opening all sorts of specialty sub-units,e.g., Women's Center, cancer, etc. As a result of this the area has enjoyed an influx of physicians and their ancillary services so,yes, the medical services are flourishing. We are fortunate to have such comprehensive care available locally.
