We're headed out to Nickajack tonight to do some fishin' and thinking about checking out the bats at dusk. Just wondering if anyone else has seen them... Thanks

we went over there a few years ago, about dusk looks like hundred of the tiny creatures come out of the cave opening. It is very hard to see them.

We did make it over and I tell ya, if you haven't been already then plan to. This is a little spot on the river with good parking, outdoor tables and a sandy swimming area. Just across the way the train runs quite often and is a nice touch. Probably not the best kept spot in TN but by far one of my new favorites.

The fishing was amazing. I am not sure if we were catching shellcrackers or bluegill but we actually ran out of bait before we ran out of energy! As soon as the worm hit the water it was ON! Great spot for taking a first timer or little child as the fish are SURE to hit.

Just before dusk we walked the decked sidewalk app 1000' feet to the overlook. There were probably 20 or so kayakers from Chattanooga and a couple of fishermen in boats waiting as well. The small bats started coming out and they looked like a swarm of butterflies lol Not a WHOOSH of exiting bats but it was fun as they swirled around the tree tops and brushed past you on their way around. It was very relaxing to watch them as the water lapped the banks. Pretty cool but not as amazing as I thought it would be. Maybe there is a better season, breeding or migration, for viewing? Either way, I got my yearly fishing license and that's where we are gonna hang out

Sounds so peaceful and relaxing. I'd love to go there and do that. Is it hard to get to?

It's just a short drive off of I24 @ exit 161 near New Hope and Haletown.
