It's a Mennonite community that has, by all reports, a couple of wonderful restaurants and a general store.

PLEASE try the baked beans at Strouds BBQ in Cookeville. They are the best that I have ever had anywhere.

Try Mama Rosa's Pizzeria/Italian restaurant. They have the best stromboli’s. Make sure you order it with extra mozzarella.

Thanks for your help, sounds like Cookeville is more my speed, however, every picture I see of the place looks so desolate, is it really as quiet as it appears? Looks lonely.

Just checked into the hotel. We've already had lunch at Crawdaddy's & Ralph's donuts . We've been to Country Patchworks Quilt Shop and The Most Amazing Quilt Shop....my wife liked both shops. We're going to the one in Sparta and the one in Crossville tomorrow. Also went to Glass & More....and walked all around the Depot area.
After a rest we'll head out again to explore...and try to decide which place we'll eat dinner this evening!

Wow, that's great! The twists at Ralph's are to die for. Back when Cookeville was a REAL small town they used to say that all the town's movers and shakers would make their political decisions at Ralph's Donuts.
Enjoy the rest of your trip! It's supposed to cool down the rest of the weekend so hopefully you'll get to enjoy being outdoors more. When are you going to Burgess Falls?

Far from lonely unless someone is the type person who holes up in their home and never comes out...fighting traffic jams with smog is not my idea of fun......
