Sneedville / DSL
Hi All
First I want to say this forum has been a wealth of info for us.
We live in central Fla & as soon as we can sell our place here we'll become Tennesseeans (is that the proper terminology?) & we promise not to talk about how we do it here!
We have purchased property in Sneedville, actually we are 7 miles out of town & we are wondering if we can get DSL internet through the phone company. We know we can't get broadband but we're hoping Dsl is available.
to Mbmouse...We love looking at all your pictures, makes us wish we were already there!

DSL is not currently available much outside the city limits in Sneedville. And where it is available, there is a waiting list. The phone company says they hope to change this by the end of the year as much work is being done to accomplish that. Your only other option besides dial up is satellite internet.

Thank you Greasy Rocker. We didn't think it would be available, but wanted to check. We were kind of leaning toward satellite because then we'd have it for T.V. also.
Have you lived In Sneedville long? We just fell in love with it & can't wait to get up there.

For Brbrbrgn
Hello Central Fl.. I live in St. Pete and have land right outside of Sneedville up on Short Mountain Rd. behind the town. Since 'm not built yet, I own a small place on an acre out in Kyle's Ford -- a beautiful area also. I would be interested in knowing what took you to Sneedville. I got there by exploring off of the beaten path. I used to have property in NE GA., but it is much too expensive for me now. A few from Fl. have purchased land near Sneedville. I guess when we all get there, it will change too, but not too much I hope. Everyone is very friendly; but I do know that when building, one has to guard against burglaries. That part is true about the area. No DSL yet, but it will come. Like greasy rocker said, the best option for high-speed now is satelite, unless you do live in town.
[i]'m not a Tenn. redneck yet but was born in the SW VA. mountains.

Tenn Redneck,, Our friends also have purchased on Short Mountian!! They will be going up sometime in the next month for a visit. You wouldn't happen to be Don & Susan are you? My husband went up a couple of weeks ago & seen the sign up right next door to them! Actually they are the ones that found Sneedville & we all just fell in love with it. None of us have actually moved there yet, but hopefully soon. Don't know about St Pete but Vero is in a major slump as far as selling, so it might take longer than we want it to.

I heard that Sneedville is like the typical vision of "Mayberry USA"...
is this true?

It may been like Mayberry but you do need to realize it is very far removed from most of North East TN as far as...........well...about everything. I am not saying it is a bad place, just way out there and not much of anything to it. Last time I was there (few years back) I was insulted by an old timer siting out side the gas station said "A woman wearing a suit!, what's next, they belong at home with the kids in the kitchen" Or something very similar (can't remember verbatim) I just giggled as I got in my car and left.
